Hangings and executions typically use gallows that are made out of wood. There are several types of gallows, from a simple inverted 'L' shape to the more complex full-frame-and-stand-with-trapdoor designs.Since gallows became less popular, the number of people who know how to make them has been waning.Primarily based in Europe, gallows are a form of art collecting. It is possible that building and or operating a gallows is illegal in your jurisdiction. Before moving forward, you should know the law.
Step 1: It's best to use a piece of lumber between 4m and 5m.
It needs to be at least 20 cm wide and fashioned as a square or rectangle.
Step 2: To make an 'L' shape, attach another piece of lumber that is 1-2m long to the top of the first piece.
Step 3: Attach 4 pieces of lumber to the end of the long piece.
The 4 pieces can be as long as you want, and attached in the form of a cross with one on each side of the pole. This can be used as an anchor when buried deep, or as a stand when braces are attached.
Step 4: The main pole can be connected with a brace on the 'L' at 45o.
This helps keep it from breaking.
Step 5: The grove is half a meter from the end.
This is where you will end up.
Step 6: Stand up your gallows by digging a hole deep.
Provide support for it with the optional cross-bar anchor. The victim is standing on a chair with a rope around his neck. The stool is kicked away when the time is right.
Step 7: Take the floor out of the plank.
A one person gallows should be on this floor.
Step 8: Making legs and braces for the floor will make it look like a large table.
You can either add a staircase for convenience or use a ladder every time.
Step 9: Take two 3m long posts/poles that are fashioned into square diameters and attach a third pole 2m across the top of them both, similar to the inverted 'L' design.
At a 45o angle, you can attach two braces from the center of the third post.
Step 10: The third post has a notch in it.
Step 11: Attach the posts to the stand
You can run the posts through the floor of the stand if you use longer posts.Make sure they are still attached.
Step 12: Under the cut notch on the floor of the stand is where you can cut out a 1m square.
This is the trapdoor.
Step 13: Attach hinges to the trapdoor, and attach a lever to it and the floor of the stand so it can be lever released.
The victim stands on the trapdoor of the stand and the correct length of rope is run around the notch and looped over the person's neck. The lever is pulled when the time is right and the person's weight causes the trapdoor to fall.
