If you use pre-built panels, building a rabbit run is easy.A simple run out of wire panels can be created. The wire run can be used indoors or out.Building a run is a great way to get rabbits out in the sun.Poor quality bones and teeth can be caused by lowvitamin D levels in indoor rabbits.Natural sunlight will benefit the rabbit's health.
Step 1: rabbits need to run
In the wild, rabbits need a lot of exercise to stay alive. They will need to run and jump a lot.If you feel the need to take your rabbit outside, then you don't necessarily need a run.
Step 2: Understand the purpose of a run.
A run is a great place to exercise your rabbit. They are also protected from predator. Most predators can't get into the runs because they are enclosed on all sides.
Step 3: A good size is needed.
Medium and small rabbits should be kept in a cage that is at least 2 feet by 4 feet.If you can, make the run bigger for your rabbit.
Step 4: You should include a hutch.
bunnies need a shelter if you plan on leaving them outside.A run is great for exercise, but the rabbits' home is a hutch.
Step 5: Pick a shady location.
If you don't have a shady location, you should cover your hutch with more than just wire. You can use anything that will provide shade.
Step 6: Take your materials.
The cage kit has wire modular pieces. Most home improvement stores have a hammer and nails as well as zip ties or hinges.
Step 7: Attach two pieces together.
Next to each other, place two pieces. The two pieces should be brought together with two zip ties. You may need to make another layer if the pieces are not very high. The zip ties can be used to add the top layer as well. You want it to be at least 3 feet high.
Step 8: Go around the pen.
Continue adding pieces to the pen until you find one that is right for you.If your pieces are 2 feet wide, you need at least two pieces on each side and one on the other side.
Step 9: A door can be created.
Attach one panel only one side is the easiest way to create a door.It will swing out, up or down. It's possible to keep it closed with a clip or clothespin.
Step 10: Replacing the zip ties is a good idea.
You may want to replace the zip ties with metal j clips, which are more secure and visually appealing.Zip ties can be used to keep the cage in place. If you leave the zip ties, make sure they face out.If your bunny chews on anything inside the cage, point the ends of the zip ties out.Pull them tight and clip off excess.
Step 11: You should build a roof.
You can use the same pieces to build a roof.Attach the piece on top to the sides and corner.Attach the pieces to each other and the sides until you have a solid roof.
Step 12: For a more permanent run, build a floor.
You need to add wire pieces across the floor if you plan on leaving bunnies in this run outside.Rabbits can get out of the cage.If you want a more solid floor for your rabbit's feet, use either wood or a thick layer of straw on the bottom.Utility mats can be used to cover the bottom instead of wire.
Step 13: First, design your run.
There are many styles of aviary panels. They are made from wood and wire. Some of the panels have wire all along the side, while others have door openings on one end. They are long enough for you to build a pen.You can shorten the pen by turning them so the length runs along the ground. The kind of panels that are solid on one end could be used to create an impromptu hutch for your rabbit.
Step 14: Buy the right panels.
Purchase panels to match your design once you've decided. You should be able to find them at farm and tractor stores.Farm and tractor stores may have them since they were originally designed for birds.
Step 15: Pick a location.
You don't need a mesh floor if you put the aviary panels over concrete. If you are building it over grass or dirt, you will need to add wire underneath.
Step 16: If needed, add wire.
The wire is referred to as "gopher wire."You can put it under the cage. You can use ground staplers to keep it in place.Normally, this wire would go under the sod, but as it's not usually an option with rabbits, you can add it on top of the grass. To keep your rabbit's feet protected, cover the bottom of the cage with plenty of fresh straw and change the straw out regularly.Push the wire ends into the ground so no one gets scratched on them.If you want, you can put in a wood floor.
Step 17: You can join the panels.
Just like any wooden frame, you can use screws or nails to join the panels. If you use screws, you can take it apart and make a new configuration. There is a simple option of brackets and screws. To join using brackets and screws, lay the panels flat on the floor. They need to be as close as possible.Place the 6 brackets along the seam. The screws will go where the drill is used.Put the screws in.Corner brackets are used for corners.
Step 18: Don't forget to open the door.
The easiest way to leave a door is to use an aviary panel with the door already installed. If you want it to swing out, you can use hinges on one of the panels. The hinges are installed the same way as the brackets, you'll need to add a latch for the door.
