How to build and setup a block wall foundation part 1 and 2
To mark the ground where the wall will be built, use a shovel. The stakes should be driven into the ground at each end.Drive additional stakes if the distance is greater than 8'.Tie a string to a stake at the wall's desired height and stretch across to opposite stake or stakes. To make sure the heights stay level and constant, use a string level.
Remove the entire area to a depth of 8 feet.Spread 4” of gravel evenly in the trench. To level the area, use a power or hand tamper. When the appropriate height is reached, check for level and add or remove gravel.
Staring at one end, place the first course of concrete blocks top side up on the crushed rock with the front lip facing up and towards the wall. You can adjust the blocks with a rubber mallet as you go along. The concrete should be filled with crushed gravel.
The corrugated drainage pipe should be behind the first course of blocks.Slip a drain sleeve over the pipe to keep it free of gunk.
Remove all the debris from the first course with a broom.Make sure the blocks stay level by stacking the second course on top of the first. The concrete should be filled with crushed gravel. To cover the drainage pipe, backfill with gravel.Top with soil.Continue until desired height is reached.
To secure the blocks in place, use a caulking gun and concrete glue.Press on the blocks. The manufacturer's directions say to allow the concrete to dry.
