How To Build Disco Lights

A good party can be turned into a great one with the lighting up of a dance floor.Disco lighting involves projecting light onto a mirrored ball. You can build your own colored light ball. You can either purchase disco dance bulbs or build your own.

Step 1: You can get or make a mirrored ball.

The disco ball is the most popular disco decoration. When a spotlight is projected on their surface, they produce moving white dots of light. You can either find a disco ball online or make one of your own.Disco balls come in many different sizes. If you want to fill a living or dining room with moving white dots, get a ball that is about 30 cm in diameter.A disco ball is 20 in (50 cm) in a larger room.

Step 2: Get a disco ball motor.

The disco lighting effect is amplified if you put a ball on a motor and move the dots of light around the room. The disco balls that come with a motor can be purchased separately. You need a motor that can handle the weight and size of your ball. Some can handle larger disco balls, while others can't.

Step 3: The motor should be hung from the ceiling.

You can attach the motor to the ceiling if you choose a location near the middle of the room.Plan the route the cord will take if the motor is powered by a plug. The disco ball motors can be mounted to the ceiling with screws. There must be an appropriate space to hang a light that will point at the disco ball in order for it to work.

Step 4: There are spotlights pointing at the disco ball.

There are many different spotlights that will work with the disco ball. It's important that the light is pointed in a specific direction. If you can point two spotlights at the ball from different directions, the effect will be even better. The spot lights can be mounted in many different ways.If you get a spotlight for this purpose, it may attach to the disco ball's base. You can attach it to the ceiling with a base of its own.The size and strength of the light can affect the ideal distance between the mirrored ball and the spotlight. If you want to get the desired effect, place the spotlight in different places relative to the ball.

Step 5: You can get a disco-specific spotlight.

The lighting effect made by the disco ball is supplemented by spotlights. You can get a spotlight that rotates through different colored filters, so that the dots of light moving around the room change color.

Step 6: Purchase a light cord.

The ball of light is a disco decoration. You can buy a light cord from a hardware store or online.Light cords that change color, flash, and even change effects via remote control are available for a variety of colors.

Step 7: You can get a bunch of cups.

The shell of the ball will be made of these. They are the perfect material, they are cheap, and they can be found at the grocery store. You might need more cups than you think. It depends on the size of the ball you want to make, as well as the cups you use.Make sure you have enough by getting about 100 cups.

Step 8: To make a circle, glue cups together.

Use a glue gun to apply a vertical strip of glue to the side of a cup, and press another cup against the strip, so that their sides are touching from top to bottom. The cups will be tilted slightly away from one another, and the bottoms of them will point inwards.Taking care to keep the cups on the same plane is what you have to do.The number of cups you use to complete this first circle is up to you.You will be adding layers on top of this circle with a few less cups each time to complete a dome.Use 16 cups to complete your first circle if you are using classic water-cooler sized styrofoam cups.

Step 9: Each time, add more layers with less cups.

Attach the cups with glue in the spaces between them. The opening of the cup needs to be pointed out.Continue this process with cups.It will take fewer cups to complete each layer. As you stack layers, the bottom of each cup will tilt slightly towards the center of the dome that is slowly forming.Clothespins can be used to help hold the cups while you glue them in place. In the same way, make a dome. The two hemispheres can be joined to complete the shell of your light.

Step 10: There is a single bulb in the bottom of each cup.

From the inside of your half dome, push an LED bulb into the bottom of each cup, so that the bulb just barely protrudes from the well of the cup.For the other side of the dome, glue the two halves of it together with the rest of them.Run the plug out between the cups if the string is powered by a plug.

Step 11: Buy a rotating, flashing, and/or color changing light bulb.

Light bulbs create disco-like effects. These can be found at novelty shops or online. The classic disco effect of a rotating field of dots of light is created by some.Amazon has a good selection of things like "magic light bulb" or "color-changing light Bulb."Many of the light bulbs are ready to use.You can put them in a compatible sockets and start dancing.

Step 12: You already have disco light bulbs.

A disco light may be as easy to build as a light bulb is.If you want to replace the regular bulbs with a rotating one, remove the cover from the ceiling fixture. You can use lamp cords from power sockets to position a disco light bulb.Resale or thrift stores are great places to get light bulbs.A cord with a plug on one end and a bulb receptacle on the other can be used to remove pieces of an old lamp.

Step 13: You can build your own disco light fixture.

If you want the fixture to be free standing, you need a power cord, lamp holders, a lamp holder base, wire nuts, and a back cover. The wires need to be connected to the lamp holders with wire nuts.Behind the lamp holder base, there are wire nuts.If you have never wired a light fixture before, have someone help you out.It is safe and easy to do.Don't work on the wiring of things that are plugged in.If you're working on your disco light, keep the plug out of the sockets.
