Many parts of the country are home to pillbugs. Many people enjoy keeping pillbugs as pets because they are easy to handle.pillbugs can be found under rocks or in moist areas. If you want to keep pillbugs in your home, you need to know how to create and maintain a proper environment.
Step 1: You can use a plastic tub or aquarium for housing.
Pick a container that's resistant to water because pillbugs need a damp environment to thrive.Go with something made of plastic or glass. If you have a lot of pillbugs, you can purchase an aquarium at a pet store. If you don't want to spend a lot of money on an aquarium, you can use a plastic tupperware container from your kitchen.
Step 2: The container should be filled with grass and dirt.
You can begin to create a proper environment for your pillbugs once you have secured a container.Put one to one and half inches of moist soil or sand in the bottom of the container.Sand and soil can be purchased from a pet store or greenhouse. As part of their habitat, pillbugs enjoy wood bark, leaf litter, and dead vegetation.
Step 3: The container needs to be wellventilated.
Thebugs need to live in a container.Make sure you place small holes on the top of the container so that pillbugs can't escape. You can poke holes in the top of a tupperware lid if you choose to.
Step 4: Feed pillbugs a healthy diet.
In the wild, pillbugs eat mostly decomposing vegetables and should have a similar diet in captivity to keep them healthy. You can buy fish flakes at a pet store.Feed your pillbugs leftover apples, lettuce, potatoes, and carrots.Feed leaf litter from the wild to your pillbug. You can feed pillbugs food that has been sitting out for a few days, but don't give them moldy food. This can make them sick.
Step 5: The container needs to be kept humid.
Thebugs need a humid environment to survive. If you want your pillbugs environment to be adequately moist, invest in a humidity thermometer. The environment of less than 75% humidity should be avoided by pillbugs.Without proper humidity, they will not survive. You can mist the container with a spray bottle.Adding water to the soil on a daily basis is important.A cotton ball or paper towel can be placed in the container.Make sure the pill bugs don't eat them.
Step 6: The soil should be replaced periodically.
It is possible for pillbugs to cause health problems by releasing waste gases. Before you change the soil, make sure you remove all the pillbugs.Babies may be difficult to differentiate from soil if your pillbugs have reproduced. If this is the case, put a piece of wood in the container as babies are likely to congregate there.
Step 7: Take care of pillbugs.
Most pillbugs are easy to handle, but you should be careful. When handling pillbugs, use your thumb and forefingers to pick them up.You can use a spoon to scoop them up.Dropping your pillbugs can cause them pain, so make sure you don't.They can sometimes fall by mistake, as they walk fast. It's never a good idea to handle pillbugs.
Step 8: Don't mix different species.
It's possible that pillbugs are being mixed with different species. If you add bugs to your tank, make sure they are also pillbugs. The bugs have flattened, round bodies, and seven pairs of legs. They roll into a small ball when frightened.
Step 9: The enclosure should be kept out of the mold.
You have to make sure the pillbug's container is free of mold. You can do this by periodically changing the soil and removing food that isn't eaten.
Step 10: Clean containers on a regular basis.
If your container is moldy due to the soil, periodically switch your pillbugs into a new container. The container should be washed with soap and water.Put the pillbugs back inside after adding soil, leaves, and water.
