Cats chew on grass to get vitamins and minerals, but an indoor cat doesn't have access to your lawn.Cat grass is easy to grow indoors, so you can give your cat the food it needs.Cat grass can be grown in soil or in a water source. The grass pot will allow your cat to eat it whenever it pleases.
Step 1: Place the soil in a pot that is 2 inches from the rim.
It is safe for your cat to dig into the organic soil. The grass can spread out if you choose a pot with a wide opening.Since cat grass dies within a few months, don't use any fertilizers in your pot.
Step 2: You can cover the seeds with a thin layer of topsoil by scattering them in the pot.
The seeds should be spread evenly across the soil.Since the grasses' root systems don't take up much room, it's okay for the seeds to overlap. The seeds should be covered with about 4 in (0.64 cm) of soil once they are in the pot.Purchase cat grass seed packs from your local pet store, garden center or online. One day before you plant the seeds, soak them in a bowl of water.Within a few days, the seeds are more likely to grow.
Step 3: The soil should be Misted until it is moist.
You can mist the topsoil by putting water in a spray bottle.Water should be sprayed onto the soil until it feels damp.If you leave standing water on the surface, your seeds may not grow.If you pour water directly into the pot, it will drown the seeds and prevent growth.
Step 4: Put the pot in a dark place and keep it there for a few days.
Plastic wrap helps maintain a humid environment and encourages grass to grow quickly. After you cover the pot, use a toothpick to poke a few holes in the plastic wrap. The pot should be kept in a dark place, such as a kitchen cabinet. You have to remove the plastic wrap after three days.
Step 5: The pot needs to be moved to get natural light and time for the sprout to grow.
The pot should be placed in an area of your home that gets direct and indirect sunlight throughout the day.Your cat will be able to chew on the grass after about ten days.
Step 6: Two-thirds of the jar or bowl should be filled with grow stones.
Grow stones are used in many systems to provide food and water.Put the stones in a shallow glass bowl or jar.Leave a third of the container empty. You can purchase grow stones from your local gardening store.
Step 7: Spread your seeds by placing a paper towel or coffee filter on top of the rocks.
There is a barrier between the grow stones and the seeds.Spread a thin layer of seeds on top of the filter. It is okay for the seeds to overlap or be on top of each other. If the paper towel you used isbleached, it could damage your seeds.
Step 8: Water can be poured into the bowl or jar from the paper towel.
The seeds won't be disturbed if you add the water slowly. The water should be in the container until it touches the filter. The water will be absorbed by the filter and kept moist. If the water level drops below halfway, you should refill the container.
Step 9: Allow your cat to eat the grass after 10 days.
After a few days, your seeds will grow, but the grass won't fully form until about a month later.Once the grass is about 10 cm tall, your cat can chew on it.
Step 10: The pot should be kept in an area with natural light.
The pot should be kept on the windowsill or the floor. It's important to make sure the spot is in an area where your cat frequents. After your cat eats your grass, the light will help it grow.
Step 11: The grass needs water to stay moist.
Feel the top of the soil to see if it is moist.Use your spray bottle until it is damp, but not so much that it forms pools of standing water.Check the water level inside your container if you are using grow stones. If it is below half full, fill it with water. It could die if you overwater it.
Step 12: The grass should be trimmed between 4 and 6 in (10–15 cm) when it gets too long.
Your cat may be able to destroy the grass pot if it gets too long.Use a pair of gardening shears to trim the grass.
Step 13: When the grass starts to turn yellow, plant new seeds.
Cat grass only lasts for a few months.Remove the grass from the pot and replace it with new seeds.Within a few days, you will have a new pot that is growing cat grass. If your cat chews the grass, it will grow back quickly, so you don't need to replace it.
