A built-in location platform in Windows 8 informs apps, web pages, and networks of your regional location.While this service tailors ads and content to fit your needs, location services can be very intrusive.You can change your regional location settings from the Control Panel app, as well as alter your network location status from public to home.
Step 1: You can click the "File Explorer" icon.

This will prompt a menu with different country choices.If you have recently moved or never set your country to begin with, changing this option is helpful.
Step 8: Pick your country of residence.
Try scrolling down if you don't see your country right away.
Step 9: To confirm your changes, click "OK"
You have changed your location settings.
Step 10: Make sure you log onto your preferred network.
In order to make changes to its location settings, you'll need to actively use your network.Click the symbol in the lower right-hand corner of your screen to log onto your preferred network.It is possible that you will have to enter a password before you can log on.
Step 11: There is a symbol in the lower right-hand corner of the screen.
You can choose your current network from the network menu.
Step 12: Click on the network you want to use.
The drop-down menu will have network settings choices.
Step 13: Click "Turn sharing on or off".
Network sharing is good for private networks since you don't have to worry about someone stealing your data.
Step 14: Take a look at your options.
When you register a network, Windows asks if the network is home, work, or public, and the security settings for that network are dictated by your chosen category.If you accidentally set your home network as a "Public" one, you can change network sharing settings to make it private.If you want your network to have public attributes, click "No, don't turn on sharing or connect to devices"This will make your computer invisible to other computers and devices.You won't be able to use your other home-networked devices from your computer if you do this at home.If you want your network to have private attributes, click the "Yes" button.This will allow your computer to be seen by other computers and devices, circumventing traditional network security.It can allow potentially harmful sources to access your computer if you do this in a public location.
Step 15: Go back to your computer.
You have changed your location settings.
Step 16: You can click the "File Explorer" icon.
There is a folder-shaped icon next to the Start menu.
Step 17: Click the option that says "desktop."
"Desktop" can be found in the left-hand sidebar of the File Explorer menu.
Step 18: Click the "Control Panel" option.

Step 19: Click on the location settings option.
If you don't want your computer updating third-party sources with your location, you can disabling location services from here.
Step 20: Click the box that says "Turn on the Windows location platform".
The check mark should be removed to show that the location platform is no longer active.Click the box again to enable location services.Before closing the menu make sure the box has a check mark.
Step 21: To confirm your changes, click "Apply"
You have disabled location services.It is important to keep in mind that disabling location services will affect features such as desktop news.If you rely on having these experiences tailored to your location, don't stop them.
