How To Change the IP Address on a Mac

If you want to avoid being attacked by other users who are targeting your IP address, or if you simply want a new online identity, changing your address can be useful.You can change your mac address at any time.

Step 1: You can click on the Apple logo.

This can be seen in the top left corner of your screen.The menu will change.

Step 2: Click System Preferences.

Under "About This Mac," you'll see this.

Step 3: Click on a network.

You'll see this in the third row.

Step 4: You can find the network in the left sidebar.

If you are using a wi-fi connection, click on it.

Step 5: Click advanced.

This is at the bottom right corner of the window.

Step 6: Click on the tab.

Along the top of the window, you'll see tabs for hardware, proxies, and WINS.

Step 7: Click the menu next to "Configure IPv4" and select manually.

If you click on "Renew DHCP Lease", your computer will automatically generate a new address for you.

Step 8: Enter your desired address into the field.

You can change the last part of the number by taking your current address.Your current address is "10.0.1.8", so your new address can be something like " 10. 0.1.129."

Step 9: Click OK and then apply.

Your internet protocol address will be changed.

Step 10: You can click on the Apple logo.

This can be seen in the top left corner of your screen.A menu will change.If your current network isn't doing the trick, use this method, as a proxy server is another, but temporary, network you'll use to connect to the internet.

Step 11: You can click System Preferences.

Under "About This Mac," you'll see this.

Step 12: Click to join the network.

You can see this in the third row.

Step 13: You can find the network in the left sidebar.

Click on it if you are using a wi-fi connection.

Step 14: You can click advanced.

This can be found at the bottom right corner of the window.

Step 15: You can click on the proxies tab.

Along the top of the window, you'll see tabs for hardware, WINS, and DNS.

Step 16: Click to select a protocol.

If you don't know which protocol to choose, select "SOCKS Proxy"The SOCKS Proxy protocol is used to route network packets between clients and server and is effective at boosting general security and hiding the client address of applications.Web Proxy and secure web proxy are less protected than a SOCKS Proxy.

Step 17: The address of the proxy server should be entered into the blank field.

If you are using a SOCKS proxy, you can use the list at http://sockslist.net/ to find a type 4 or type 5 address.

Step 18: Click Apply, then click OK.

You will be connected to a proxy server.

Step 19: Plug in your modem.

If the modem and router are in the same unit, you can plug them both in.If the modem is separate from the router, you can reset your address.Wait a couple of seconds.A Dynamic IP Address is what most residential connections have.Your internet service provider will give you a new address when you connect to their network.

Step 20: The router needs to be plugged back in.

Wait for the internet to come back on.

Step 21: The new address should be checked.

The "Network" section of "System Preferences" is where you can find this.Wait a few hours before plugging your modem back in if it didn't work.
