Whether you are moving out of a studio apartment, a dorm room, or a large house, packing up your bedroom is often the toughest part. It's important to be focused and organized when packing since bedrooms are the most crowded rooms in the house. It will be much simpler to unpack and find everything you need in your new place if you pack categorically.
Step 1: There are supplies to gather.
Before you start packing, make sure you have everything you need.If you have a lot of things in your room, you should buy at least 10 boxes.Get a roll of bubble wrap, masking tape, black marker, and a trash bag.If you want to pack your nicer clothes, consider getting one or two wardrobe boxes.Buy cylindrical poster containers to protect them from damage.Keep tools handy as well.Make sure you are wearing comfortable clothes that you can move around in, as well as sneakers or other flat bottomed, closed-toed shoes.Don't buy only large boxes.Carrying large boxes can be difficult due to their heavy weight.
Step 2: Get rid of unwanted items.
When unpacking, you don't want to pack things that you'll throw out. Before you start packing, make sure to look around your room for any trash, papers or debris that you don't need.Go through your possessions, especially your clothes, and see if there are any items you no longer use.You can either throw these items out or donate them.
Step 3: You should pack a suitcase.
You should separate out the items you need during the move. You may keep a few outfits in your bedroom.During the days of your move, pack any electronics you need.A backpack or suitcase is easy to carry around.
Step 4: Pack things that are fragile.
Before you tackle the rest of your room, it is a good idea to wrap up fragile items and pack them away.Take fragile items such as lamps and glass ornaments and wrap them in bubble-wrap.Attach the bubble-wrap to the item.Pack fragile items in a small box.Make sure the boxes are full so the items don't slide around.Stuff the box with tissue paper or bubble-wrap if there is a lot of space left in it.To make sure your items are safe from being broken in the move, add an extra cushion to the bottom of the box. After packing the fragile items, mark the box with "Fragile" and tape it up.Don't put any other boxes on top of it and place it outside your bedroom on a counter or table.
Step 5: Pack small items.
Small, non-fragile items like papers, books, knick-knacks and whatever you may have on the top of your bedside table or bookshelf can be filled in small boxes.Wrap the items in clothes so they don't get damaged during the move.Pack books in a box.You should label each box with the name of the book.Write on at least two sides of the box with a dark marker.
Step 6: Posters and rugs should be rolled up.
Roll up items like rugs and posters to move them.If you have a rug in your room, tie it with a length of rope.Take the posters down from the wall.Roll them up, slide a rubber band to secure the roll, and put them into a poster tube. The poster tube protects it from being torn or crushed in the moving process.
Step 7: It's a good idea to wash dirty clothes.
You won't have to worry about finding clean clothes when you move into your new home.As you wash your dirty clothes, you can organize them.
Step 8: You should organize your clothes.
The most time-Consuming aspect of packing up a bedroom is the packing of your clothes. You should organize your clothes by season.Put your spring and summer clothes in one pile, while your winter and fall clothes are in another. There should be separate piles for underwear, socks, and shoes.
Step 9: A wardrobe box is a good place to put high-quality clothing.
If you own a tuxedo or a very delicate dress, keep them on the hangers.Hang them in a wardrobe box.If you can, place the wardrobe box outside of your room. The hanging rail inside the wardrobe boxes helps you hang your clothes. If space is an issue, you should only use the boxes for your fancy clothes. If you have curtains in your room, hang them from the padded hanger. The curtains should be placed in the wardrobe box so that they don't crease. If you're worried about space, you can use wardrobe bags. The wardrobe bags don't stand upright. The clothes should be packed on top of the boxes so they don't get damaged.
Step 10: Put your clothes in boxes.
Not only will folding clothes make them less wrinkled when you take them out of the box, it will also help you pack more economically since folded clothes take up less space.Place each type of clothing in its own box after folding. You can label the boxes according to what's inside with labels like "Summer shirts" or "Shoes".Pack the boxes with packing tape.
Step 11: Take your sheets and blankets out of your bed.
Put your sheets and blankets in a box with your pillows. If you don't want your mattress to get dirty, put it in a bag.If you want to get more space, take the mattress out of the room and lean it against the wall.
Step 12: Disintegrate furniture.
bookshelves or lamps in your room need to be disassembled before they can be moved.Use a screwdriver to remove screws. If you don't know how to disassemble a piece of furniture, you can look online for a manual of the model you have.If you are using a moving service, they can disassemble the bed frame and take the mattress and frame out of the room.If you want to disassemble your bed frame on your own, you need to remove the bed slats and the screws in the frame.Place nuts, bolts, and other small parts of the bed frame in a plastic bag.
Step 13: Remove your furniture from the room.
You can clean your room if you clear out the furniture. If you are renting a moving truck, it is a good idea to have the moving company help you move the furniture.Friends may be able to help you move furniture out of the bedroom.Furniture made of wood which is particularly scratchable should not be scratched if you are moving it.If you are worried about furniture getting scratched, tape bubble-wrap onto the edges.
Step 14: If there are any remaining items, pack them up.
There will be a few odds and ends in your room.Pack them up in a box and wrap them in bubble-wrap if necessary.By this point, your room should be completely bare and ready to clean, if you label this box "Miscellaneous".
Step 15: You should clean your walls.
You may be able to see that your walls are dirty after you have moved out.You should remove tacks, tape, or nails from your walls first.Use a non-abrasive all-purpose cleaner to scrub the walls.Put the sponge into the water and wring it out.Test a patch of the wall with a sponge. If the sponge doesn't leave a mark when it dries, you can use it to clean your wall.If you have small holes in your wall, fill them with putty. If you want to level the wall with the putty, you need to smooth it with a knife or finger.
Step 16: The floor should be vacuumed.
A high-powered vacuum can be used to give your floor a vacuum. It's important to get every inch of the room.Go over the whole room a couple of times if the room is carpeted.Carpets capture a lot of dust and dirt, so going over it just once may not work.
Step 17: Use a carpet stain removal product.
If you notice that there is a stain on the carpeting in your room, you can use a carpet stain removal product. To remove the stain, follow the instructions on the bottle. If the carpet is white, use a product that won't stain the rug further.
Step 18: Dust thoroughly.
Dust may cling to surfaces that were previously covered by furniture or posters when the room is empty.Dust can be brushed away with a feather duster. You can use a damp paper towel to get at dust bunnies.Dust window ledges around the threshold of the door.
Step 19: The windows need to be cleaned.
Rub the windows in your room with a newspaper and a window cleaner. If your room has an in-wall mirror, use the same method to clean it to leave it sparkling.
