How To Clear All Files from a Computer Running Windows XP
You can remove all user-created files, folders, and programs from a Windows XP computer if you boot from your installation CD and format the drive.If you want to perform this process, you have to have your installation disc.
Step 1: If you want to save any files, back them up.
You won't be able to get the files back if you deleted them from your computer.If you want to back up your files, you can use a hard drive.You can use a CD-RW to back up your files, but they have less space available than a standard hard drive.
Step 2: You should insert the install disc into your computer.
You will have to buy a replacement if you no longer have the install disc.You can burn an installation file to a CD if you have a purchase key.
Step 3: It's time to restart your computer.
When prompted, click, and then click the green button.
Step 4: To enter the setup, press and hold Del or F2.
The key you're prompted to press might be different, and most computers will display a message on startup that says "Press [key] to enter setup" or something similar.If you want to confirm your computer's BIOS key, you can look at the manual or online support page.
Step 5: You can select the boot tab.
The selection box can be moved by using the arrow keys.Depending on your computer's manufacturer, the tab may say.
Step 6: The CD-ROM Drive option is available.

Step 7: You can make the CD-ROM Drive your boot option.
Press + until it is at the top of the list.You might have to press a different key.To confirm, check the key legend on the screen.

Step 9: You can enter at the "Welcome to Setup" screen.

Step 10: Press F8 if you want to accept the agreement.
Press that key instead of F8 if you're prompted to do so.
Step 11: Press Esc when prompted.

Step 12: The partition to be selected is the "Windows" partition.
The text will say something like "Partition 2 (Windows)".The line of text can be selected by pressing the key.
Step 13: Press D and then L.
The partition where your operating system and all of its files are located will be deleted.You may see a different key prompt at the bottom of the screen.Use those if that is the case.
Step 14: If you have to, re-select the partition's space.
Make sure the partition is selected in the blank space where it used to be.

In the space where the old partition was, a new one will be created.

The partition will be selected as the location to install Windows.
Step 17: The partition's format can be chosen.
Press Enter to select the option.
Step 18: Wait for the hard drive to finish.
This can take a long time.If you follow the instructions on the screen, your files, programs, and any other user-installed items will be gone.You will need a product key to finish the installation.
