How To Command Prompt can be used to change a computer password.

Command Prompt can be used to change a PC's password.You will not be able to change the password if you don't have administrator access to the computer.You can use the Terminal to reset the computer's password.

Step 1: You can open the Start menu on your PC.

You can either click the Windows logo in the bottom- left corner of the screen or use the Win key on your keyboard.You can open the Start menu with your mouse.

Step 2: The "Search" field has a command prompt in it.

You can use this to find the Command Prompt app on your computer.You can see it at the top of the menu.The "Search" bar can be brought up by hovering your mouse in the top-right corner of the screen and clicking the magnifying glass.You can click the app on the right side of the Start menu if you're using Windows XP.

Step 3: Click Command Prompt.

It looks like a black box, right-clicking it will open a menu.If you're using Windows 7, you can type cmd into the Run window.

Step 4: As administrator, click Run.

The drop-down menu has it near the top.Command Prompt will open with administrator privileges if you do that.Clicking when prompted will confirm this choice.Command Prompt can be opened if you're using Windows XP.

Step 5: Command Prompt is where you can type net user.

The space between the two words is important.

Step 6: Press Enter.

You can display a list of user accounts on your computer.

Step 7: You can find the name of the account.

Under the "Administrator" heading on the left side of the Command Prompt window is where you can change your own account password.

Step 8: Command Prompt will prompt you to type net user.

You can change the password with the name of the account you wish to change.The account name section of Command Prompt shows you how to type it.

Step 9: Press Enter.

You should see a new line appear with "Type a password for the user" written on it.If you see a group of lines that start with "The syntax of this command is:", type net user Administrator * in for an administrator account or a guest account.

Step 10: You have to type in a new password.

If you accidentally press the Caps Lock key, the cursor won't move.

Step 11: Press enter.

You will be asked to re-enter your password.

Step 12: Re-type your password.

Again, it won't appear as you type, so take your time.

Step 13: Press Enter.

"The command completed successfully" is displayed beneath the second password entry if the two word entries match each other.If you try to log onto your PC again, you'll need to update your password.
