The human is in charge of the dogs.Control is required in order to have a dog who does what you want. There are a lot of ways to do this.Control should never be established by harming a dog.
Step 1: When the dog does what you want, give it a treat.
The boss gets to decide if the dog gets the reward or not after you establish that you are the boss.A dog bone, biscuit, or pieces of cut up hot dog is a good food treat.Different animals respond to different food so figure out which is the best for your dog. Some dogs respond to positive reinforcements such as toys, a rub to the belly or a quick walk. What works for your dog?It is important not to use negative reinforcements with the dog.It is illegal to physically force or cruelly treat a dog, and they will not work well with it.Dogs respond to love and not yelling.
Step 2: You should be very consistent with your rules and rewards.
Your dog needs to know what to expect. It is not possible for a dog to see you as being in control if you constantly change your expectations.Constantly changing rules seems weak to a dog.The dog will get confused if you are the only person in the house following the rules. The dog should not be given mixed signals. It could take some time to train your dog.It is easy to do when the dog is young, but it will take some time.Repeatedly telling the dog to "sit" is a good way to use repetitive commands. There is no free lunch for the dog.The dog shouldn't get food before obeying a command. The dog should have a clear and consistent structure.
Step 3: In both praise and disapproval, be very firm.
Allow your dog to sense your dominance when you praise him.Place your hands on the dog and hug it.Don't praise him in a timid way.Show your strength. The first command should be obeyed by the dog.If you keep repeating yourself, the dog won't perceive it as strength or firmness, and you'll lose control.Follow through on your commands. The dog is going to learn that you aren't that firm if you make exceptions.Losing control with the dog is indicative of weakness.
Step 4: Make sure the dog knows that he isn't in the top of the family.
Humans can encourage a dog to think he is the leader in the house.Do not feed the dog off the table if the humans have eaten.Control the dog's feeding habits. When you say the dog eats, he eats. The dog eats when you let him.The dog has to earn his food. The dog has toys. The dog only gets a toy or two a day.The dog should keep an eye on you as you bring the items out.The dog loses the toy if it tries to guard it.
Step 5: The dog should be moved out of your way many times a day.
You don't walk around a dog that is sleepy in the hall if you're the alpha. The dog needs to treat you like a parent.Stay dominant but remain in control.Walk through the dog by shuffling your feet until he gets up.Silence can be dominating to a dog. When you really need them use the verbal commands.Stay in command and be calm at all times. It's important that you control access to doorways. You are in charge of the place. The dog is not. When you get home, don't let the dog jump on you.If the dog jumps up and down, greet it last, and ignore it.
Step 6: Do not allow the dog to assume positions that are higher than yours.
Dogs achieve a sense of power through this method. They shouldn't be on the sofa top looking at you.It is not a good idea to allow a dog to sleep in your bed.The dog associates the most comfortable sleeping place with hierarchy. If you must have a dog in bed, make the dog sleep at the foot of the bed rather than on the pillow. The dog should be given a bed on the floor. The dog will think the human is less than it is if it wrestles with it on the floor.
Step 7: When you disapprove, use the tone of your voice to let the dog know.
Dogs understand the sounds and tone of human words. If you want the dog to know that you're happy, change the tone of your voice and make your pitch higher. The pitch of your voice should be lowered when you want the dog to do something or indicate your disapproval. You can make your point with hand gestures and verbal commands.
Step 8: Establish dominance by using eye contact with the dog.
Dogs use eye contact to decide who has control. If you stare first, you lose.Averting your gaze will make the dog stronger.Do not have staring contests with the dog. When you give a command, look in the dog's eyes. You don't want to be in a situation where the dog occupies a higher position than you. That's a recipe for rapid loss of control.
Step 9: Try leash training.
It is possible to control a dog by taking it for long walks on a leash. If you establish control this way, you will lose the purpose.Stay ahead of the dog or at its side if you keep it on a short leash. You are the person who leads, not the dog. When the dog is not trained, don't let it run wildly off leash. The human is in charge of the dog.The dog should be stopped several times during walks.Try playing with the dog.The dog should be on a leash. When the dog runs or walks ahead to the point of pulling at the end of the leash, say a red light and stop completely.Wait.Call him back when he stops pulling.Give him a treat when he comes back.A person is walking.Try to walk fast by using treats to reward your dog.Pop a treat in the dog's mouth when he remains at your side.If the dog moves too far ahead, to the side or behind, it won't get any treats. The dog will not have as many opportunities to run.You can show your dog that you're in charge by training them to pay attention back to you. When your dog looks back at you, you can reward them with a command like "watch me."
Step 10: A crate is a good way to train your dog.
The dog can stand up and move around in a crate. The crate can be used to show the dog you are in control.Leave the door open when you put a new toy or treat in the crate.Wait until the dog gets in the crate.Reward the dog when it comes out.The process should be repeated.Don't open the door until he is quiet for a few minutes.Stick to the schedule. The dog should be taken outside to go to the bathroom when you open the crate. The dog learns over time that going to the bathroom is only possible in a certain spot.
Step 11: Try to train your dog.
A small dog clicker can be used to control your dog.You can buy these at pet stores. You hold the clicker in your hand. You make a clicking sound when you want your dog to do something.Reward the dog with a treat when he follows the command. The dog will see the clicker as a language. The click will result in a positive reward for the dog.
Step 12: People are trained in how to handle dogs.
It's important that you act quickly if your dog is growling or guarding resources.Ask for references to credible dog trainers or dog training classes from your local vet.Know when you need help. The Humane Society needs to be contacted if the dog is dangerous to children. You can't control your dog so it's wrong to put others in danger.
