How To Cover a Glass Door for Privacy

On sunny days, glass doors can be useful.Sometimes a bit of privacy is nice. While there are many options for covering glass doors for privacy, frosting your glass, applying window film, and installing curtains are all simple, affordable options that give plenty of flexibility.

Step 1: The glass door needs to be cleaned.

Take 4 parts water and 1 part vinegar and put them in a spray bottle. The solution should be sprayed on the glass windows. The windows should be wiped with a clean cloth. After wiping them down, use vertical and horizontal strokes to wipe them again.

Step 2: You can cover your doors with painter's tape.

Start by covering the frame of the door with horizontal and vertical pieces.Continue laying the tape on the door until the wood is fully covered. If you don't know how to spray paint, cover most of the door with tape.Attach the door with painter's tape if you want to cover it.

Step 3: The spray paint is frosted.

Don't use the spray can until you shake it.Start from the top of the glass. You can alternate spraying from left to right and right to left.As you spray, move the can down the glass. If you don't want to cover the exposed area with tape, hold a piece of cardboard next to your door.

Step 4: Allow the window to sit for 10 minutes and let it dry.

The frosting will be able to take effect. The frosting layer's opacity should be checked after. If you don't like it, apply another coat. The more coats you have, the more opaque your glass is.frosting takes a bit of time to take effect so don't apply a second layer immediately after the first.

Step 5: Cut the window film to the size you want.

4 to 5 sprays of water will be used to cover the glass. The most efficient use of the film is to mount it vertically or horizontally. The water will hold the film in place.Use a utility knife to trim it 1 inch larger than the glass size.Measure the doors before you buy window film. Most films are either 36 or 48 inches wide.

Step 6: Put the film on the window with the water.

A few sprays of water can be applied to a window.Place the film on the window and pat it down with your hands. The release liner should be facing you.The sides of the window film need to be rubbed together.Don't crease the film. One side is slippery. The other doesn't slip easily. The release liner is slippery. If you have a friend with you, have them hold up the film.

Step 7: The spray bottle should be filled with water and baby detergent.

When it's 34 of the way full, pour water into a spray bottle.Add a small amount of baby shampoo.Too much soap prevents the film from sticking at all, while plain water makes it stick too quickly. After putting the top back on, turn the bottle upside down to mix the soap.

Step 8: The window scraper and squeegee can be used to clean the glass.

The entire glass surface should be wiped down with a sponge. After pressing against the glass, drag the squeegee across the surface starting at the top and working your way down.At the end of each squeegee pass, wipe the blade with a lint-free towel or microfiber towel. After you've squeegeed the window frame, wipe it with a clean cloth.

Step 9: The film's top- left corner has a piece of tape on it.

The piece of tape was close to the window. When it sticks to the window, press it down. The second piece of tape should be free and you should grip it with your right hand.

Step 10: While spraying the film with water, pull the liner off.

In your left hand, hold a spray bottle filled with water.Pull the second piece of tape downward to remove the liner.Slowly, make sure that you don't ruin the film as you separate it.Remove the liner and spray the film.Pull off the release liner and spray the film. Before you pull the second piece of tape, make sure the tape stuck to the window is secure.

Step 11: Once the liner is removed, spray the film with soap solution.

The entire surface of the film should be sprayed with soap solution after the liner is removed. You should spray the center of the glass after.Don't spray the edges, this will wash the dirt out of the crevices.

Step 12: The film should be applied to the glass.

Place the film over the glass and let the water hold it in place.Attach it to the top 2 corners of the glass door.

Step 13: The water should go to the edges of the glass.

Work outward from the center.Pull the glass door and push the squeegee across it.This will ensure a better bond and drive more water out.Leave 1 inch from the edge.

Step 14: The film can be trimmed using a knife and a tool.

Carefully slide the tool up into the corner of the glass, pressing the film down to the frame. The knife should be placed against the 5-way tool on the glass side.Place the blade at the halfway point of the tool.To trim the film at the edge of the frame, you need to slide the tools down the window frame. As you cut the film, press down against the frame. For each side of the window, repeat this process.

Step 15: Measure your glass doors.

Measure in three different ways along the doors.Afterwards, draw a rough sketch of the doors. As you shop, take a photo of the glass doors to use with your sketch.

Step 16: Purchase curtains and curtain rods.

84 inch curtains will sit above the floor. In terms of width, select curtains that are at least twice the width of the glass, and keep in mind that magnetic curtain rods are typically between 17 to 30 inches (43 to 76 cm) wide. There are rods that can be used beyond either side of the glass. When deciding curtain height and rod placement, account for curtain type.Hooks, rings, tabs, grommets, or pockets are some of the common types.

Step 17: Place the brackets on the doors.

To mark the locations of curtain brackets, use a measuring tape and pencil. The rods should be placed outside of the door's glass area.If the placement matches your vision, hold the rod and brackets in place. To make sure your rod is even, ask a friend to place a carpenter's level on top of it.Place the carpenter's level on top of your other if you're on your own.

Step 18: Attach magnetic curtain rods to the doors.

There are self-stick magnetic tabs in the brackets.Remove the paper covering the tabs and press them onto the brackets.Attach the rod to the curtain by sliding it through it.The width of the rod can be adjusted.
