Despite the many interpretations the catsuit has gone through over the years, Catwoman is a great costume choice because she's strong, sexy and her outfit is instantly recognizable. The feline creation made famous by Pfeiffer in Tim Burton's Batman Returns is probably the most popular catsuit to date.
Step 1: There is a black jumpsuit.
A shiny black jumpsuit is the basis of many a Catwoman costume, and it's no different for Pfeiffer.Try to get a jumpsuit that zips up the front, with a high neckline and long sleeves. These type of jumpsuits are readily available at most costume or Halloween stores, or can be found online and purchased off eBay.If you don't have the time or money to buy a jumpsuit, you can use items already in your wardrobe to create a similar look.Leather pants, wet look leggings, or even a tight pair of black jeans can be used for the pants. The top will be formed by a tight black sweater.
Step 2: There are jagged white lines in the material.
Your are trying to recreate the look of Pfeiffer's Catwoman jumpsuit, which had white stitching all over.Take some white chalk and draw the jagged lines you want to create.Place them at random all over the suit, using a picture of the Catwoman costume from the movie for reference.Stitch over the white lines with a needle and a length of white thread. If you have time, you can use the white chalk to create the stitched effect or paint over the chalk with some white-out.
Step 3: Buy or make a headpiece.
The half-mask with cat ears was the most important part of Pfeiffer's Catwoman costume. The best place to buy a replica mask is on Amazon or eBay.The sites often have headpieces, gloves and claws. If you're on a budget, you can make your own Catwoman headpiece. You can take an old pair of sweatpants. If you want to fit the leg of the pants over your head, you need some stretch in the material. The piece you cut off should be long enough to cover half your face, reaching just above the tip of your nose.To make the ears, there should be several inches of material above the top of your head.Draw a white semi-circle on the cut side of the material with a piece of white chalk. You will use this line to create ears on both sides of the mask.A picture from the movie can be used to draw two large eyes on the mask.Take a pair of scissors and cut a semi-circle from the chalk line.Cut out the two eye holes. The top of the mask should be sewed closed with a needle and black thread.Attach a couple of stitches to tighten the mask if it feels loose along the sides. You can either wear the mask as it is or add the white jagged stitching you did on the jumpsuit.Again, use a picture of Pfeiffer's headpiece from the movie as a reference.
Step 4: Make gloves with claw marks.
If you can find a pair of elbow-length, black gloves in a shiny material, that's great, otherwise any kind of material will do.Slits in the tip of each finger can be cut with a sharp scissors. The longer and pointier the fake nails are, the better. The fake nails should poke through the slit on the gloves if you apply them to your own fingernails. It's dah!It is possible to buy Catwoman gloves online with the nails already attached, but this method gives you the option of taking the gloves off and still having cat-like claws.
Step 5: There are knee-high black boots.
You will need some knee-high black boots with a killer heel to complete the look. You should give them a good polish before you wear them.
Step 6: There are black pants or leggings.
Halle Berry's Catwoman wore a slightly different look than her other versions, so no need for a jumpsuit this time. You should be able to find a suitable pair of pants at a Halloween or costume store. In the movie, Halle Berry's pants are bootcut rather than skinny, but they should be tight at the top.Take some white chalk and draw lightening bolt shapes on the legs of the pants. To get a ripped effect, take a sharp scissors and cut along the lines. You want to look like you were attacked by a bunch of angry cats, so don't worry about cutting neatly.
Step 7: You can get a leather-look bra.
You should be prepared to flash some flesh with this costume. If you can, find a bra or bustier that looks like Halle Berry's lingerie from the movie.Silk is the next best option if you can't find something suitable in those materials. If you have time before you actually need to wear the costume, why not work on getting a flat stomach, the best accessory this costume could have! It's a good idea to wear a black, strappy bodysuit if you don't want to expose that much flesh. To get the claw-ravaged look, make sure you put some tears and rip in it.
Step 8: You have two black belts around your waist.
Halle Berry wore a belt contraption that connected her bra straps to her pants. You can create a similar effect by wrapping two belts around your waist, crossing them over to form an "X" shape. The belts should be made from canvas, in black or dark khaki green, but any kind of belts will do the job.
Step 9: You can buy or make a headpiece.
Halle Berry's interpretation of the feline anti-heroine includes a black half-mask with cat ear detail. There is no white-stitching on this Catwoman. You can either buy an exact replica online or make your own using the method outlined in Step 3 of the previous section.
Step 10: Wear black shoes.
If you want to stay true to the movie, you should wear open-toed black shoes or boots with an average-sized heel.If the legs of the pants are worn over them, then any kind of shoes or boots will do.
Step 11: Get gloves and a whip.
You can find costume whips in Halloween stores or online, or you can make your own by painting a jump rope black.
Step 12: There is a black jumpsuit.
Anne Hathaway portrayed the most recent incarnation of Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises. It's sexiness isn't diminished by the simplicity of the Catwoman costumes. The black jumpsuit is the basis of the costume. If it's possible, try to get a jumpsuit in a black color. If you can't get your hands on a jumpsuit, some tight black pants or leggings and a black zip-up or turtleneck sweater will do the trick.
Step 13: A wide black belt is worn around the waist.
A wide black belt should be worn around the waist. If you could get a real gun holster, that would be even better!
Step 14: Purchase a black mask for your cat.
Anne Hathaway's Catwoman does not wear a headpiece, but instead wears a black mask and headpiece with her hair loose on her back. She is similar to the Catwoman portrayed by Julie Newmar in Batman.A plain black mask, along with a headband or clips with cat ears, will work for this outfit. You can use black felt to make your own mask.Simply draw the outline of the mask onto the piece of felt, cut it out neatly, and attach a length of black elastic to either side to form a mask.If you want to make your own cat ears, you need to cut out two triangular-shaped pieces from some black cardstock, glue black PVC or felt fabric to both sides, then attach each ear to a black alligator clip.
Step 15: Wear gloves.
If you want to wear this costume, you need long black gloves which reach above your elbow.
Step 16: Get a pair of thigh-high boots.
The most eye-catching aspect of this Catwoman's outfit are her thigh-high, black leather boots. It's good if you already have some in your wardrobe. To find the perfect pair, you may need to go to some shoes stores or websites. The heels should be at least 4 or 5 inches high.It depends on how true to the movie you want your costume to be, and knee-high black boots will do in pinch.
Step 17: There is a fake gun.
Anne Hathaway's Catwoman doesn't carry a whip, but she does have a gun. There is a fake black gun in any costume store. You can keep the gun holster belt there if you found it.
Step 18: Straight hair is good.
Unlike the other costumes, where hair is tied back or tucked under the mask, this look allows hair to be left loose.Anne's hair had a lot of volume. If you want to achieve a similar effect, blow dry your hair and hold it upside down.Pull the hair back from the face with a headband or clips.
Step 19: The right foundation is needed.
When applying your favorite foundation, mix it with a little white face paint as Catwoman is usually pale.To create a flawless finish, blend it well with a stippling brush.Set the foundation with a translucent powder. You want to have dark circles under your eyes.
Step 20: The focus should be on the eyes.
If you want to create depth and shadows, apply a taupe eyeshadow all over your lids. The shadows should be brought towards the sides of your nose.Next, apply a dark brown eyeshadow to the crease of your eyelid, and then blend it out.To apply the black eyeshadow to your lower lashes, use a small brush to bring it into the corner of the eye.It should look messy. To give a hazy, smoky effect, blend the shadow on your lower lashes with a cotton swab.Line your bottom lashes with a black eyeliner.Curl your eyelashes, then apply a black mascara.
Step 21: You should pencil your eyebrows.
Define your eyebrows with a brow pencil. To give it more depth, apply white eyeliner beneath the arch of the eyebrow and then apply a white eyeshadow to the brow bone.Put brow gel on your eyebrows.
Step 22: Put red lipstick on.
Line your lips with a red lip liner, then apply your favorite red lipstick.Refer to a specific Catwoman picture for reference when using a brush to make a precise shape.Extra definition is added to the outside of your lips.On top of the lipstick, apply a red lipgloss to the center of your lips.Your lips should be flirtatious.
