How To Create Desktop Shortcuts for Office Programs on PC or Mac

You can learn how to create a new shortcut icon for a Microsoft Office app on your computer, and save it to your desktop.

Step 1: On your computer, open the Start menu.

The Start menu can be opened by clicking the Start icon in the lower left corner of your desktop.

Step 2: You can create a shortcut by right-clicking the Office program.

You can find the Office program you want to shortcut by clicking on its name or icon.You can open your options on the pop-up menu with this.

Step 3: On the right-click menu, hover over More.

The sub-menu has more options.

Step 4: You can open a file on the More menu.

The program's original EXE file can be found by opening a new file explorer window.

Step 5: The file explorer window has a EXE file in it.

Your options will pop up.

Step 6: On the right-click menu, hover over Send to.

You can use this option to send the file to another device or location.

Step 7: You can create a Desktop on the Send to menu.

This will allow you to save a program on your desktop.You can use the right-click menu.A shortcut will be created in the same folder.You can drag this shortcut to your desktop.

Step 8: A new window has been opened.

The blue-and-white smiley face icon can be found at the bottom of your screen.This will open a new window in Finder.Clicking the Finder icon will only switch you to the open window if you already have a Finder window open.To open a new Finder window, press Command+N.

Step 9: There are applications on the left sidebar.

This will open your Applications folder in Finder.If you don't see a sidebar on the left-hand side, press Option+ Cmd+S on your keyboard.You can see the sidebar on the left of your window.

Step 10: Select the Office app you want to use.

Click on the name of the app you want to use to highlight it.

Step 11: The file tab can be found on the top- left.

There is a button on the menu bar.A drop-down menu will open.

Step 12: On the file menu, click Make Alias.

Next to the original app in the Applications folder, this will create a shortcut for the selected program.

Step 13: There is a shortcut that you can drag to the desktop.

You can move the app shortcut from the Applications folder to your Mac's desktop by clicking and dragging it.
