You want to change up your wig, but you are afraid of damaging it.There is no fear. You can use a curling iron, sponge rollers, or a straightening iron. The wig will be full of bouncy hair with the proper treatment.
Step 1: Before curling the wig, brush it to remove tangles.
A wig brush is designed to remove tangles from wigs.Move the wig brush through the hair, starting at the lower end and moving up the length as you brush. If you don't have a wig brush, use a wide-toothed comb, which is more convenient than a hair brush or a comb with closer-set teeth.
Step 2: Use clips to create sections of hair.
Put the wig on the mannequin's head.If you want to start curling, leave a layer of hair as a bottom section. You can do a thorough job by curling a layer of hair at a time.
Step 3: Wrap a small section of hair around a roller.
The section should be no bigger than 2 inches.Keep the hair as neat as possible by rolling it all the way up to the root.Use the roller's latch to clip it in place.Continue this for each section of hair until it's all rolled up.If you keep the curls neat, you can get a clean ringlet look.Re-roll the hair if the roller does not stay in place.Continue until the hair is secured in curlers.
Step 4: If your wig is natural hair, apply heat to the rollers with a blow dryer.
The heat setting should be turned on warm. For 60 seconds, hold the blow dryer on each roller.Curls will look messy if you use too much heat.If your wig is made of synthetic hair, apply heat to it.Synthetic hair will be ruined by the heat.
Step 5: The rollers need to be removed from the wig.
Don't pull the roller out of the hair. The wig has nicer ringlets.Run your fingers through the hair.
Step 6: You can put a wig on a mannequin head.
If you like, you can curl your wig while it's in place. You can create the style you want.It might be easier to style the back of the wig on a mannequin head.
Step 7: The curling iron needs to be heated.
A good heat setting to start with on a curling iron is 180 F, which is low enough to not cause damage, but still curls the hair.If you want to make sure you don't get damaged, do a heat test on a small patch of wig at the base of neck or under layer.Don't have hair that goes around the face. The wig will melt if the curling iron is too hot.To see if wigs and synthetic hair can tolerate heat.
Step 8: Remove the wig so it is free of tangles.
It is easier to curl hair when it is tangle free.If you want to brush it, use a wig brush or wide-toothed comb.If you want to comb through the wig, start at the lower end and move up the length of the hair. You can put your wig in a bowl of cold water and use a small amount of shampoo to get it untangled. The synthetic fibers can be cleaned with this alternative. As this can tangle it further, don't stretch, pull, or rub the wig against itself. It should be swirled around the bowl.If you empty the bowl, refill it with cold water and conditioner.
Step 9: Use a rat-tail comb to section off the wig hair.
Move up a weft and clip the sectioned hair to the top of the head with the rat-tail comb.Once you have one bottom layer of hair, use large clips to section it off.Bigger sections will allow you to have bigger, looser, and tighter ringlets.
Step 10: Curl the bottom layer of hair.
Wrap a small section of hair around the curling iron and hold it for a few seconds. To set the fibers in a curly shape, pin the curls up.Look at it.If you want the pin Curl to keep its shape, apply Preservative to it.Depending on whether you use a curling wand or tongs, some curling irons require you to start at the top or bottom of the hair. You have to hold the hair in place on a wand with a protective glove.Once hair is secured in the metal grip of the curling iron, it will be held in place.
Step 11: Curls should be left against the head for a moment.
To hold the style, the heat will set and cool in the pin Curls. If you want to create a natural curly look, unpin the curls when you feel them and brush out the rest of the hair.
Step 12: The next section of hair is where you want to go.
The same as you did with the first section, unclip the next section and start curling. The wig will hold the curls if you pin them up as you go.Wrap the hair in different directions.
Step 13: Use your fingers to blend the curls.
If you want a natural and softer look to curls, this is optional. To create smaller, fluffier ones, use your fingers.
Step 14: It's a good idea to set the style with hairspray.
As soon as you take out the pins, spray each one individually. When you have finished curling the hair, spray them. The product should be held at least 8 inches away from the wig to prevent build up.
Step 15: Bring water to pour over the wig.
The temperature should be around 170 and 180 F for curling after it has boiled.Synthetic fiber will be melted by hotter than that.If you take the water off the heat, it will be too hot to use immediately.
Step 16: Attach the wig with a wig brush or fingers.
If you want to untangle the wig, run your fingers through the strands gently. You can use a wig brush from the bottom to the top. It's a good idea to soak a wig in cold water with conditioner.
Step 17: Curl sections of hair.
The ends of hair should be secured with end papers.Wrap the rest of the hair between the ends of a rod.To make sure the wig hair won't melt, test it with the heat. The wig is not heat resistant if the water is too hot.A wooden spoon is a heat-safe tool if you don't have wooden dowel rods. The rubber bands on the perm rods keep the hair secure. You will need to wet the hair before submerging it in hot water.
Step 18: The wig should be put into a pan.
Leave the wig in the pan for 5 to 10 minutes while the water saturates it.If you use perm rods, dunk them into the hot water with hair wrapped around them.Don't hold the perm rods in the water for more than 6 seconds if you're dunking them.
Step 19: Allow the wig to sit in the water for 3 hours.
The curls can be formed by leaving the rods in the hair. They might take a few hours to dry.If you want to speed up the process, use a blow dryer that is on the lowest heat setting. If your wig is made of synthetic materials, only use the lowest heat setting, as you can damage the wig.If you have a natural hair wig, you can use a higher heat setting on your blow dryer. You can put the wig on a wire and let it dry.
Step 20: The wig has rods in it.
Before taking the rods out, touch the wig to make sure it is completely dry.You should remove them from the hair to keep the look.If you want your hair to be fluffier, brush it out with your fingers or a comb.
Step 21: Use a comb or your fingers to untangle the wig.
If the wig is on a mannequin's head, run your fingers through it.If you use a wide-toothed comb, comb from the bottom of the strands until you get to the top.
Step 22: Straighten some hair.
If you want to create flawless curls, you need to start with hair that has no waves in it.Run the iron along the section of hair until it is straight. The section of hair should be small for your pin to hold. It's best to keep sections of hair small. To make sure it can tolerate the heat.If your wig is synthetic, be careful.
Step 23: Curl the section around the mannequin.
Wrap the hair around your finger after you release the strand from the flat iron. For a few seconds, let it set on your finger.
Step 24: Use a clip to pin the curl up.
The hair should be removed from your finger. It should look like a circular object.Curl the mannequin's head with a flat clip or a bobby pin.
Step 25: With the next section of hair, repeat the above step.
You have to repeat the steps until you have all of the hair pinned. You should not leave any loose strands. When you unpin it, use plicol to hold it in place.
Step 26: The pins should be set for at least an hour.
The time it takes for the hair to form in the wig is an hour.If you follow the process of curling before bed, your wig can be set up in the middle of the night.
Step 27: Remove the clips.
Finger comb through the wig's hair. This makes the hair look natural. When you use your fingers to separate the curls, you will have a lot of body and movement. When the wig is on a mannequin's head, re-pin it at night.
