When you want to smoke a cigar, you have to cut it off because the tobacco won't dry out. There are easy ways to remove the cap without using a tool that is specifically made for cigars. You can find a tool that works for cutting or punching the end of a cigar whether you are at home or out with friends. You can enjoy smoking your cigar once you make your cuts on the cap.
Step 1: Put the cap of the cigar in your mouth.
The closed rounded end of the cigar is usually the closest to the band or label.Put the end of the cap in your mouth.Take the cigar out of your mouth.Your cigar doesn't come undone if the cap is moist.
Step 2: The knife should be parallel to the cap line.
Take the cigar out of your dominant hand and put it in your non-dominant hand. The cap line is where the cap meets the cigar. The blade should be against the cap so it is parallel to the line.Don't place the blade below the cap line since you will cut through the wrapping to get to the cigar. You can use your thumbnail to cut through the cap if you don't have a knife.
Step 3: The cigar should be rolled around the cap.
Push the blade into the cap and it will cut through the surface. To cut around the cap, roll the cigar clockwise between your fingers.Light pressure should be applied to the blade to keep it from slipping.Cut around the cigar multiple times to loosen the cap.If you are using a dull knife, you may need to cut through the cap more than once.If you have trouble rotating the cigar by hand, place it on a table. If you use a sharp knife, you don't have to crush or crack the cigar.
Step 4: Remove the cap from the cigar with your fingers.
Carefully peel the cap from the cut edge.As you peel up the cap, make sure the cigar isn't connected to the wrapping. When you expose the tobacco inside, keep working the cap off of the cigar. You are ready to smoke the cigar after you remove the cap.You may need to cut around the cap again if you have trouble peeling it off.If you see a vein running from the cap to the main body of the cigar, be careful because you could tear the wrapping and make it come undone.
Step 5: A straight horizontal cut across the cigar's cap can be made with a knife.
It is easier to cut into the cigar's cap with a sharp knife.Hold the cigar vertically with your non-dominant hand and knife. The blade should be placed on top of the cap so that it intersects the center.Pull the blade across the cap of the cigar to make your cut.The cut works best on cigars with rounded or blunt ends. You may cut yourself if you apply too much pressure to the knife.
Step 6: Cut another line that is parallel to the first one.
Make your cut parallel to the blade by rotating your cigar by 90 degrees. When you don't feel resistance, push the bottom of the blade through the cap.To make a cut, pull the blade across the cap. After making the second cut, you can light and smoke a cigar.
Step 7: If the cigar has a tight draw, score 2 more lines through the cap.
You can try to see if the air passes through the cigar by putting it in your mouth. If it feels difficult to pull through, place the blade on the cigar's cap so it goes through the center and is between the lines you already cut.You can slice across the cap.You can make another cut that is parallel to the one you just made. You should have 4 cuts that look similar to a star when you are done.It is easier to draw from a cigar with more air in it.Since air will pass through the lines you cut, you don't have to peel off the cap to smoke.
Step 8: If you Lick the top of the cigar, it will not crack.
Put the cap of your cigar in your mouth. As you lick the cap with your tongue, lubricate the cigar.Take the cigar out of your mouth. If you attempt to punch a hole in your cigar, you are more likely to damage it.
Step 9: The cap has aPhillips-head screwdriver in it.
You are less likely to break the wrapping if you hold the cigar in your non-dominant hand.Put your screwdriver in the center of the cap.To make a hole, push the screwdriver into the cap by 2 inch.If you need a flathead screwdriver, you can use it, but it won't make as big of a hole.If you don't have a screwdriver, you can use any sharp object, such as a pencil, pen, or golf tee.
Step 10: If the draw is tight, breathe through the cigar.
You can breathe through the hole if you put the cigar in your mouth. The air should flow quickly through the cigar. The draw is too tight and the cigar will not smoke well if it feels like there is a lot of resistance. If the draw feels tight, punch more holes next to the first one.If you used a pen or golf tee to punch your holes, you may need 4–5 holes total through the cigar's cap to get an even draw.
Step 11: The cigar should be placed between your front teeth.
The main body of the cigar is connected by a seam around the cap.Your front teeth are above the cap line if you place the cigar in your mouth. If you bite down, the cigar won't move in your mouth. If you bite past the cap line, you could damage the cigar.
Step 12: Go through the cap.
If you use your front teeth, they will give you the cleanest cut.You can feel the cigar's body when you bite down on the cap.Take the cigar out of your mouth and bite it.Continue until you feel the cap detach. If you don't have another way to remove the cap, biting it will make an inconsistent cut.
Step 13: Put the cap out.
You will have the cap and tobacco in your mouth once it detaches.Throw the cap away when you take it out of your mouth. If you still have tobacco in your mouth, rinse it out with water.Don't swallow the cap since it could make you sick.
