Adding a personal and romantic touch to your ceremony is an easy way to decorate your wedding arch. You'll need to think about your theme and what decorations you want to use for the arch: flowers, foliage, lights, candles, themed decorations, or something else entirely unique to your wedding!By decorating your arch, you can make your day even more special.
Step 1: If you have a bigger budget, buy the arch.
You can keep the arch in the garden after the wedding if you have a large garden. If the decorations on the arch don't match your garden's design, you can replace them with trailing plants or vegetables. There are stores that specialize in wedding decorations. You can find them online. It's possible to buy a wooden trellis that is large enough for what you want.
Step 2: If you have a small budget, rent an arch.
It's an option for people who don't have a lot of room in their homes or gardens to store the arch after the wedding. You can rent them from the same places you rent tables and chairs.Depending on the place you are renting it from, how far in advance you rent the arch depends on it.It can be rented for the same amount of time as the tables and chairs. How much the arch costs depends on how fancy or plain it is, as well as how long you are renting it for.
Step 3: If you are on a tight budget, check with the venue.
You can decorate the arch at some places. The decorations can not be permanent. You wouldn't be able to paint the arch or glue items to it.You may be charged extra for using the arch at some venues.
Step 4: A wedding arch is needed.
Depending on what materials you use, this project can cost a lot.It can take a long time, so it would be a good idea to start early. The arch can be either fancy or simple.A wooden design would fit most wedding themes. For a lightweight arch, bamboo sticks are a great choice. You can buy them in craft stores. There are tree branches in the arch.If you can find them in your garden or forest, they are free.
Step 5: The arch should be anchored.
The last thing you want on your big day is for the arch to topple over because someone bumped into it or a strong gust of wind blew it over.If you didn't get an anchor for your arch, you will need to make one yourself. There is plenty of support in a metal bucket filled with rocks, gravel, or sand.Put the arches legs into a bucket and fill it with sand, gravel, rocks, etc. This is good for rental arches. If you want a stronger support, fill the buckets with quick-setting cement. This should not be done on rental arches.
Step 6: You can buy flowers and greenery for your arch.
Depending on your budget and preference, you can buy flowers and greenery from a variety of places. You can buy them from a florist. You need to get the flowers the day before the wedding because the arch will be kept outdoors.Cut some greenery as well.Ferns are a classic choice, but you can use other types of greenery.
Step 7: The flowers and greenery should be kept out of the water.
Put the flowers in one of the buckets and the greenery in the other. You can arrange the flowers in a way that makes it easier to place them on the arch later. The buckets should be in a shaded area and the water cool. The buckets have to be large enough to hold your flowers.Get another bucket if you find yourself pushing the flowers into the bucket.
Step 8: The lower leaves should be removed from the flowers.
To make your decoration look full and green, you should keep some leaves on your flowers. To make it easier to arrange the flowers, remove the leaves from the stem. You can use scissors to pull the leaves off.
Step 9: Attach the blocks to the arch using cable ties.
Oasis blocks are made out of green foam used in floral arrangements to keep the flowers hydrated.Attach them to the arch with cable ties after soaking them in water. There are two blocks on top of each pole and one in the middle of the cross bar.Oasis blocks can be found in craft supply stores.
Step 10: Plants should be inserted into the blocks.
Make sure the stem is in the block. The plant needs to be stable but not so deep that the stem pokes out of the block.Cut the stem if it is too long. The plant won't get any water if the stem sticks out of the block.
Step 11: You can fill the gaps with flowers.
Once again, trim the stems down so that they don't poke out through the other side of the blocks.Don't use too many flowers or the arch will become too heavy. Then fill the gaps with the smaller flowers. You can decide the ratio of flowers to greenery. You can use more greenery than flowers in an arch for a more unique look.
Step 12: If you want, add flowers to the arch's base.
You can use buckets filled with water or more pre-soaked blocks. You can anchor your arch with heavy, potted flowers instead of using buckets filled with sand, gravel, or rocks. If the arch has metal plates on the bottom, you can place the flower pots on top of the plates to weigh them down.If the arch has stakes or narrow feet, transplant the flowers from buckets filled with soil.
Step 13: You can buy fake flowers and greenery.
Pick a theme and color scheme.Make sure that your plants are large and small.A more unique arch can be created with different textures. You can buy flowers online or at an arts and crafts store. For a classic theme, roses and ferns are great, but you can use other flowers and greenery. If you want your arch to be full, how many flowers you buy depends on that. You can either cover both sides of the arch or just one corner of it.
Step 14: The flowers should be tied.
Wrap green floral tape or wire around the stems to hold the flowers together. You can save yourself some time and effort by securing the flowers to the arch in bundles. If your flowers came in a spray, you can either leave them attached to the main stem or cut them into individual flowers.
Step 15: Attach greenery to the front of the arch with wire.
The plant needs to be parallel to the cross piece.Wrap green floral wire around the pole and stem with your other hand.Start at the end of the stem.If it feels stable, you don't need to wrap the whole stem.Use wire cutters to cut the excess wire.Attach more stems and plants when you repeat this step a few more times. In order to hide the wire-wrapped stems, be sure to overlap them.Ferns lend a classic touch, but you can also use other types of greenery, such as leaves. For a more varied look, try to use 2 to 3 different types of greenery.
Step 16: To add color, fill in the gaps with flowers.
Hold the stem against the pole and then use green floral wire to put it in place. If you have to, trim the stems down so that they don't stick out. Then fill the gaps with the smaller flowers.
Step 17: You can add more greenery and flowers.
If you want the poles, work your way along the cross bar.You don't have to cover the entire arch.It is possible to stop the flowers halfway along the cross bar and pole if you cover just the top left or right corner. You can decide the ratio of flowers and greenery. For a classical look, you can use more flowers or greenery.
Step 18: If needed, rearrange the flowers.
There are fake flowers and greenery.Look at your arch.If you see areas that are flat, bend the stems on the flowers and greenery to make them stand out.To avoid a bristling look, try to keep a few flowers flat against the arch.
Step 19: You can add a backdrop with curtains or runners.
To secure narrow curtains or runners, slide curtain rings onto the cross bar.If your curtains have a pocket along the top edge, you can simply slide the cross piece of your arch through the pocket and onto the poles. If you want a more romantic touch, use sheet curtains.A solid color will be easier to coordinate, but you can also use a neutral pattern, such as thick black-and-white stripes. You can make your own curtains if you can't find ready-mades.
Step 20: You can add battery-operated lights.
Wrap the string of lights around the pole.Use floral wire or cable ties to secure the lights, then disguise the wire/ties with flowers or greenery. The pack should be hidden with flowers or greenery.Thin wires with mini bulbs are also available.Add more lights to the cross piece. If you are going to use real flowers, make sure you get outdoor lights that are resistant to getting wet.
Step 21: The buckets anchoring your arch should be covered with sand, rocks, or cement.
It would be a good idea to cover up the sand or rocks at your wedding. Most themes would suit glass vase or pretty rocks.Moss or flowers are great for a forest themed wedding.
Step 22: Paint or fabric the buckets at the base of the arch.
You can dress up a metal bucket if you don't like it.If you want to match your color scheme, coat the buckets with spray paint.Wrap a wide ribbon around the middle of the bucket and tie it into a bow.The buckets should be wrapped with burlap fabric.
Step 23: Wrap the poles with flowers.
Use an upholstery needle to thread a long piece of string. The needle can be used to thread real or fake flowers onto a string.Attach a loop to each end of the string, drape it or wrap it around the arch. The loops need to be slipped over the nails.Pull fake flowers off of their stems first.Just below the bloom, cut the real flowers off.You can make shorter garlands and hang them from the cross bar to create a curtain effect.
Step 24: For a unique touch, consider making a flat arch.
To secure the flowers to the chalkboard, use strong packaging tape.Work your way down to the ends from the top center of the arch.Make sure to cover the tape with a few more layers of flowers. The newly-weds' names can be written on the chalk board. For a unique touch, add some greenery, such as eucalyptus.Real or fake flowers can be used. The arch could be asymmetric, where it is thicker in one area. This will make it feel more organic.
