Most of the time bacon is fried in a skillet.Did you know that you can deep fry bacon?Unlike other cooking methods that can cause bacon to be unevenly cooked, deep frying ensures that the bacon is heated to a crisp, perfect finish. If you want a fresh-from-the-fair treat, you can coat the bacon in a flour batter. If you want to fix a lot of bacon at once, deep frying is a great way to do it.In about five minutes you'll have a delicious snack or side that even the pickiest eater won't be able to refuse.
Step 1: Put oil in a fryer or deep pan.
Pick a pan that's large enough to submerge the bacon in, or turn on your deep fryer. The pan or fryer should hold about 2 cups of vegetable or canola oil.The cooking surface should be covered with oil.It is not a requirement to use a deep fryer with a built-in basket. To ensure that the bacon has the right consistency, the oil you use should be a liquid at room temperature, not a semisolid like coconut oil or shortening.
Step 2: Make sure the oil is hot.
Turn on the stove or fryer and heat the oil.Don't stand too close to the oil at this time because it will be bubbling and popping. It's a good idea to wear gloves or an oven mitt when frying to prevent oil burns.
Step 3: The bacon should be added.
Carefully lower the strips of bacon into the fryer.Use a fry basket, fork, or tongs to keep your hands away from the hot oil. There will be no need to make multiple batches if you add as many pieces as you can fit in the fryer. If you're working with a small pan or fryer, you should cut the bacon in half.
Step 4: It takes about 5 minutes to cook.
As the bacon cooks, it will sizzle. It's important to keep an eye on the clock and bacon to make sure it doesn't get done.If you remove the bacon from the fryer, the oil will continue to cook it, so you'll want to take it out before it starts turning brown. It is not certain when it will take to fry the bacon. It's up to you to use your best judgement. The thicker the bacon, the slower it may cook.
Step 5: Allow the bacon to cool.
Use tongs to get the bacon out of the oil.Put the excess oil on a layer of paper towels and let them cool before eating. You now have a mound of bacon that's perfectly cooked and ready to eat.If you don't like bacon, you can use a paper towel.Thick-cut bacon will have a chewier, meatier texture when deep fried than thinner slices.
Step 6: Prepare bacon.
Before bacon can be battered and deep fried, it needs to be heated through. If you want your bacon to fit in the fryer, lay it out on a pan, plate or baking dish.Allow the bacon to cool, then bake, pan fry or microwave it.It is best to use thick-cut bacon since it is less brittle. If you want your bacon to be cooked a second time, try to get it slightly less done.
Step 7: A simple batter can be used.
In a large mixing bowl, combine 3 eggs, 2 cups of milk and 3 cups all-purpose flour. When they form a thick batter, whisk the ingredients together. To make it taste better, add salt, pepper and other spices. The batter should be refrigerated for 20 minutes to help it set up.Salt, garlic salt, onion powder, cayenne pepper, and paprika are seasonings that can be added to fry batter. The bacon will be protected from over cooking if the batter is cold.
Step 8: It's important to coat the bacon thoroughly.
After the batter has cooled, take it out of the fridge and cook bacon. If you want to make sure the bacon is coated on both sides, dip it into the batter with a pair of tongs. The bacon is ready to be fried. After the batter is out of the fridge, stir it up.Add an extra splash of milk if it seems too thick. If you're using thin-sliced bacon, batter the strips by hand so they don't break.
Step 9: The bacon should be put in the fryer.
Allow the bacon to start frying by placing it into the hot oil.The size of your pan or fryer will affect the number of strips you can cook.If you put in too many pieces at once, they could stick together or cause the batter to fall off. When you put bacon in the deep fryer, be careful.A small splatter could be very painful.
Step 10: 2 minutes on each side.
Give the bacon time to start sizzling. The light batter will cause the bacon to float on top of the oil, so the slices need to be turned after a couple minutes. The bacon will be perfect once the batter starts to cook and turn golden brown. If you use this method, you'll be watching the batter color rather than the bacon to determine when it's done.Remove the bacon from the fryer. After you take the batter out, the oil will continue to cook it for another minute or two.
Step 11: Remove from the fryer.
You can grab the bacon slices with your tongs.Place them on a folded paper towel to absorb excess oil and let them cool off.Continue until you have cooked all the bacon you want. You might find yourself addicted to the finished snack.Don't wait until you get home to eat the bacon because it's still hot, fresh, and crisp.Because of its high fat and salt content, deep fried bacon should only be eaten occasionally.
