It is possible to block a program from accessing the internet.If you want to get work done without being distracted, you can either block someone's entire computer from accessing the internet or temporarily disabling your own.The easiest way to stop access is to remove the network interface hardware from the computer or shut it down.There are ways to stop access to the computer's user interface.
Step 1: The control panel is where you should go.
Click the "Start" or "Windows" key if you want to go to the Control Panel.If you are using Windows 8, you can move the mouse up to the top right-hand corner of the screen to see the "charm bar".Click on "Settings" if you want to hold down the Windows key while doing so.
Step 2: The security center is open.
Step 3: You can open the Windows Firewall settings.
The "Exceptions" tab is open.If you want to block access to the internet, un-check the program.When prompted, click "OK".
Step 4: Try to access the internet by opening the program.
The program that you deselected should no longer be able to reach the internet because of the Windows security firewall.All other programs will allow you to access the internet.

Click "Disable" when you see the highlighted connection.The computer should not be able to access this particular network unless youDisabling them as well.The setting should not stop other computers from using the internet.This process can be reversed.Clicking "Enable" will allow you to enable the network connection later.You need to be a member of the Administrators group in order to complete this process.Network policy settings may prevent you from disabling the connection if your computer is connected to a network.
Step 8: All network connections should be disabled.
Go to Start>All Programs>Accessories, right-click Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator, then type "mmc compmgmt.msc" and press enter.Wait for it to load, then click the device manager.Click on the devices you want to disabled, and select Disable.It is optional to restart for good measure.If you want to reverse this, simply repeat the process, but instead of disabling, select enable.
Step 9: Consider using parental control software.
Third-party parental control software can be used to block access to the internet.These programs will allow you to limit the sites that a computer can access, and they will also block the computer from using the internet.You need to install the software on the computer.If you pay a small user fee, you will be able to rest assured that your child is not using the internet in a way that you haven't approved.The built-in parental controls on Apple OS X can be used to restrict access to the internet for certain accounts.
Step 10: The Control Panel has internet options.
Step 11: Click the LAN settings when you go to the connections tab.
Step 12: Uncheck "Automatically detect settings".
Put settings in for a proxy server that doesn't exist if you want to use it.Each time a user tries to pull up an internet site, the web browser will be time out.
Step 13: This method isn't fail-proof.
There is a way for a savvy user to fix this.
Step 14: Consider using an internet-toggling device.
If you want to temporarily disabling your internet access for an entire computer, these programs may be useful, but you don't need to navigate the settings each time.If you want to get some work done offline, you don't need to be completely away from the internet.You have the option of disabling all or just certain sites.
Step 15: Try to use the internet script.
The app will help you step away from the internet by disabling your computer's internet access.With the help of this little script, you will be able to completely shut down the internet on your computer.You can restore the Internet connection with another click.To get started, download the Toggle-Internet.bat.
Step 16: Your internet will be turned off.
Click on the icon.You will be disconnected from the internet if you choose to run as administrator.When you need to connect again, just right-click the same file and run as an administrator.The script will shut down the internet for you if you don't change the status of your Network Adapter.Control Panel would be the place to go if you wanted to enable or disabled the Network Adapter manually.
Step 17: Let Me Work can be used.
You can temporarily block all websites, but you may want to limit access to a few websites that distract you.The Let Me Work script can be downloaded.This script will modify the WindowsHOSTS file to shut them off temporarily if you specify the list of sites that should be blocked.
