How To Do a Town and Country Poodle Cut

A groom on a poodle is called "Town and Country."A shaved face, feet, neck, and belly is involved. This cut is often confused with the Lamb cut on a poodle because of their shaved legs, face, and neck. The shaved feet tell you that this is a Town and Country cut rather than a Lamb cut.A Town and Country cut at home begins with bathing your poodle and using a razor to create the desired shape and pattern.

Step 1: Your poodle has fur.

You should use a non-acidic cleanser.Do not use human hair products on your dog.Carefully wash your poodle's coat.If you want to make your poodle's coat more luxurious, repeat this process with conditioner designed for dogs. You should bathe your poodle once every three weeks. After a couple weeks, the oils and debris start to build up in your pet's coat and they will begin to weigh down and diminish the sheen on your poodle. To begin, you will need to place your poodle on a non-slip surface in the bathtub and wet it down with water.

Step 2: Your poodle has fur.

To dry off the excess water after the bath, use a towel.Blow dry your poodle's coat with a hair blow dryer.Be sure to use the lowest setting for the blow dryer.Blow drying can be frightening for your dog, especially the first few times you expose him to it.While you blow dry your dog, make an effort to calm him.Speak to the dog in a soft voice and stroke it calmly. The dog can be introduced to the blow dryer sound slowly. The most efficient way to start is to blow dry the largest swatch of hair. After blow drying your dog's back, move down to the legs and belly. The hair on your dog's head and tail needs to be dried. If you let your poodles hair air dry, it will lead to small, curly ringlets.Blow dry your poodle's coat if you want it to be fluffy.

Step 3: The dog brush can be used to fluff the fur.

The fluffy hair look can be achieved by brushing against the grain of the hair.If the hair gets too fluffy for your liking, you can brush it back with the grain. As you blow dry, use a dog brush to comb out tangles. It will be simpler to work out the tangles after the coat is dry.The shaving process will be easier if the hair is fluffed up.You can trim, shave, and shape your dog's hair with less difficulty if the hair is fluffed up.

Step 4: First, shave your poodle's face.

If you want to start the work, put a #10 or #15 on the clipper.Place the razor on the fur to be careful not to cut the skin of the dog.Start by shaving the face in the middle of the eyes, right at the bridge.Next, shave the cheeks, upper lips, lower lip, and under the eye to the outer ear in a straight line. The razor should be moved slowly while you shave the dog.Don't get the razor too close to your dog's eyes.

Step 5: The neck area needs to be shaved.

After shaving your dog's face, you can move on to the neck area.Begin at the top near the head and shave down to your dog's apple. The neck should be shaved inside the V you made.Make sure the V shape looks professional by creating clean, straight lines.

Step 6: The feet should be shaved.

To begin shaving the feet, hold the dog's paw in your hand.Spread the toes apart and shave in between them with a #15 on the clipper.Don't cut the webbing between the toes. The toenails should be shaved around them. Also shave up to where the dog bends its paw, then have a line all the way around the paw.If you want to shave up to the dew claws, do the pads and stop.

Step 7: Take care of the back and belly.

Remove the hair from the middle of the back.Leave hair on the shoulders and hips, just rounding it off at the ends and under the dog.The flanks of the dog should not show. They will be rounded in as well. The hair on the chest stays the same as in a lamb cut.

Step 8: The pattern can be set with a blade.

If the dog can handle it without burning, use a #10 or #15 blade.Start at the back of the neck.At the middle of the shoulder blades, make a line all the way down the spine to the dock and then stop. The clippers can be used to make a ring around the tail. This is a characteristic feature of the Town and Country cut.

Step 9: Put the cuff above the paws.

If you want the hair above the shaved paw to stay on the ground, you have to cut it up.Round the hair off so that you get a curved appearance with this cut.The rounded, shaved look above the paws can be made with scissors.

Step 10: To blend the coat, use scissors.

Blending the coat helps eliminate the edges between the shaved parts and the unshaved parts of your dog's coat.Three to four inches is a nice length to work with. You can round off the remaining hair with a razor. The clippers may have missed stray hairs, so use the scissors to catch them.If you want to scissor the legs, you need to blend the hair in to the shoulder and work your way up the elbow.Until done, do the other side.Make sure the whole coat is covered.

Step 11: Your poodle needs to be cleaned up.

After shaving and trimming your dog, there will be a mess to clean up.Excess hair can be found around your dog's body and the area you used for dog grooming.Throw the hair away to make it less messy. If there is excess hair on your dog's body, wipe it off with a damp towel. If you don't mind the effort of washing and drying your dog's hair again, you could give it another bath.
