In electronic circuits, transistors are very common components.Their function is to resist the current flowing in the circuit, and how much resistance they give is measured in ohms. Most are printed with either a color code or a numerical code to indicate how much resistance they have.If you learn the codes and use a mnemonic device, you will be able to identify the resistors easily.
Step 1: The cylindrical resistors have leads from each end.
Step 2: The group of 3 or 4 color bands are on the left side.
A gap is followed by an additional color band.
Step 3: From left to right, read the color bands.
The first 2 or 3 bands have the same colors as the numbers from 0 to 9.The multiplier is given by the last band.A Resistor with brown, green and green bands is rated at 15 mega-ohms.The code is black, red, orange, yellow and green.
Step 4: The color on the last band is farthest right.
The tolerance is represented by this. The tolerance is 20 percent if there is no color band.Resistors with other colors can be found, but most have no band, a silver band or a gold band. There is a tolerance color code.
Step 5: The man is called Brown.
1 percent tolerance.
Step 6: Red.
2 percent tolerance.
Step 7: The orange color.
3 percent tolerance.
Step 8: Green.
0.25 percent tolerance.
Step 9: Blue.
0.25 percent tolerance.
Step 10: There is a woman named Violet.
0.1 percent tolerance.
Step 11: Gray.
0.05 percent tolerance.
Step 12: It's gold.
5 percent tolerance.
Step 13: It's silver.
10 percent tolerance.
Step 14: It's a good idea to memorize a mnemonic for resistors.
Pick the one that you won't forget. Each letter corresponds to a color in order from 0 to 9 after the first color is black. The popular device is "bad beer rots our young guts but vodka goes well."Boys rave over girls but don't want to marry them.
Step 15: The leads that extend from opposite sides or the same side are bent downward for mounting on circuit boards.
The contact plates are on the bottom of the resistors.
Step 16: The numbers are on the board.
The first 2 or 3 are significant digits and the last is the number of 0s that should follow.A rating of 1,250 kilo-ohms is indicated by a reading of 1252.
Step 17: The tolerance is represented by the letter at the end of the code.
Step 18: A: Yes.
0.05 percent tolerance.
Step 19: A:
0.1 percent tolerance.
Step 20: C: I don't know.
0.25 percent tolerance.
Step 21: Is that D?
0.25 percent tolerance.
Step 22: F:
1 percent tolerance.
Step 23: G.
2 percent tolerance.
Step 24: J: I don't know.
5 percent tolerance.
Step 25: K.
10 percent tolerance.
Step 26: M: I don't know.
20 percent tolerance.
Step 27: If there is a letter "R" in the code, you should check it.
The letter takes the place of a decimal point in this example. The 5R5 is rated at 5.5 ohms.
