If you don't want to leave your carpet sopping wet after a steam cleaning, try dry cleaning it.Some of the wear and tear of steam cleaning can be avoided with dry cleaning.A dry cleaning compound can be applied to the carpet to remove stains.A less expensive option is to use a liquid encapsulated.Baking soda and vinegar are safe alternatives if you are looking for a natural solution. All types of carpeting can be cleaned using dry cleaning products. You don't need a professional to deep- clean your carpet with the right materials.
Step 1: The stain spray should be applied to the carpet.
spray bottles make stain pretreatment products easy to apply. The bottle should be pointed at the carpet. It's a good idea to mist any areas that may need some work to clean. While you prepare the dry cleaning powder, the spray will begin to remove dirt.Areas that get a lot of traffic should use a spray on stains. You can skip the pre-treatment if your carpet is clean.Pretreatment sprays can be found online and at general stores.Sometimes they are sold with cleaning compound powders.
Step 2: There is a dry cleaning compound over the carpet.
Scoop up some of the powder with a sifter.Hold the sifter above the carpet and shake it to force some of the powder to fall.Sprinkle the powder to lightly dust the area you want to clean.Spread the powder from one side of the room to the other if you are doing the whole room at once.It is safe to step on, but make sure the spots are clean.Spread the powder around so you don't use too much.It will be effective if some of it gets on a spot, but remember that deep stains need more powder to clear. If you don't have a kitchen sifter, you can use a cup or measuring spoon. If you use your tools for something other than cleaning, wash them out.Check your local general store for carpet cleaning powders.A dry cleaning kit contains a stray, sifter, and brush.
Step 3: Use a soft-bristled scrub brush to clean the carpet.
The brush should be moved back and forth along the carpet.Be gentle with it.The brush should be pushed along the surface instead of being pushed into the carpet. You don't have to use a lot of pressure to clean the carpet because it will wear out its threads over time.If you can, use a nylon carpet brush with a threaded handle. You don't have to bend down while scrubbing.Kitchen scrubbers are safe. You can use the upholstery brush from a vacuum cleaner for dry cleaning.
Step 4: For 30 minutes, let the powder sit on the carpet.
The powder is activated when you wait.Give it some time to settle and it will draw more dirt out of the carpet threads. It isn't as effective if you remove it early. Before sweeping it up, wait for it to dry completely. You can walk on the carpet. The carpet will absorb most of the powder.Don't get any powder on your skin.Children and pets should not be in the room.Cleaning powders are considered to be safe, but be careful. You can leave the powder on the carpet for a long time.It won't hurt anything and may even pick up some dirt.Don't forget to vacuum it up afterwards!
Step 5: After the powder has dried, vacuum it up.
When cleaning the carpet, vacuum it.It's important to remove as much of the powder as possible. If you don't get all the powder in one go, go back over the treated areas a few times.Check your carpet to see if it's clean again. If your carpet has some heavy stains, multiple treatments can help.Try to use more powder or another cleaner if your carpet still needs work.
Step 6: Dirt and other debris can be removed by vacuuming the entire carpet.
You should get rid of as much debris as you can.Later, it will get in the way of the encapsulant. It's a good idea to be thorough around spots that have a lot of foot traffic. There could be more debris in the carpet. If you missed a spot, make sure to treat it before applying the encapsulant.
Step 7: Put hot water in a pump sprayer.
Encapsulants have to be carefullyDiluted to avoid damaging carpeting. Before the recommended mixing ratio is considered, check the manufacturer's instructions. It is usually something like 4 fluid ounces (120 mL) of encapsulant for every 128 fluid ounce.Put them in the pump sprayer's tank. You can find encapsulants online and at some general stores.Rent a handheld pump sprayer from your hardware store.Even though you use a liquid, it is still considered a dry cleaning method. It is low-moisture and effective at treating tough stains.
Step 8: To lightly wet the carpeting, spray the encapsulant.
Pull the pump up and down until it becomes hard to move. The spray nozzle can be held from the carpet. Then, sweep the nozzle across the carpet at a slow but steady rate, working from one side of the room to the other. It is safe to step on the encapsulant, but you should avoid it.Don't try to use a lot of encapsulant.Do not waterlog the carpet. It's a good idea to coat the dirty areas with fluid. If you spot-treating stains, you can pour some of the encapsulant on them and then blot up the excess.
Step 9: Wait 15 minutes for the cleaner to get to the carpet.
If you leave it undisturbed, it will be more effective.Don't step onto the carpet during this time.It will loosen dried grime and stubborn stains you couldn't vacuum up before, as it soaks in.If you try removing the encapsulant too early, it may not work out.If you want to speed up the drying process, you could use fans or a dry cloth.
Step 10: Rub the cleaner into the carpet with a broom.
The carpet grooming brush has a long handle. You can stay standing if you push the broom forward.Take the entire carpet from one end of the room to the other. To get rid of hidden dirt, cover any spots sprayed with the encapsulant and bring it up to the surface so it can be vacuumed up.You can use a scrub brush if you don't have a broom. Most brushes are better for treating specific spots than the entire carpet. The electrical brushes work well.It is possible to rent a brush machine or bonnet machine from your local hardware store.
Step 11: The carpet needs to be vacuumed.
A strong vacuum can pick up a lot of debris. It's a good idea to cover the entire carpet or at least any areas that have been treated with encapsulant. The carpet should be checked after.Since the encapsulant cleans the carpet, it should look cleaner and lighter. You might need to use a stronger vacuum if the carpet doesn't look different.
Step 12: Baking soda can be put on the carpet to cover stains.
Apply it generously because it is harmless. When using and mixing the baking soda into a cleaning paste, tackle stains one at a time so you don't miss any.You can't see the stain if it's well-coated.It's easier to use baking soda first than to wait to add it.Baking soda can also be used for spot-treating stains.
Step 13: Add a small amount of white vinegar to the baking soda.
The carpeting will be soaked if the vinegar is not added gradually. It will begin to form a paste. It's best to give it a few seconds to get used to it.Continue adding until all of the baking soda is gone.If you don't mind getting the carpeting slightly wet, you could spray vinegar onto it.It's good for removing stubborn stains.
Step 14: Use your fingers to work the paste into the carpeting.
A carpet scrub brush is a soft bristled brush. To avoid wearing out the carpet threads, scrub gently. The paste needs to spread between the threads to reach the part of the stain below the surface. If the stain is not covered with the cleaner, it may not be effective.
Step 15: The paste should be dry on the carpeting.
The paste will dry out quickly.Don't disturb it until it's finished drying, but leave it exposed to the open air.It is ready to be cleaned when it becomes solid. The mixture dries out quickly, so you could vacuum it up earlier.Make sure it has dried out.
Step 16: To finish cleaning the carpet, vacuum up the dried paste.
Pull up all of the paste with a strong vacuum. You can scoop it up with a paper towel, but you won't be able to get all of it.Pick up any debris you missed by vacuuming treated stains several times.Sometimes stains need more than one treatment. If that still isn't enough, try using a commercial dry cleaning product.
