Natural hair is not straightened, relaxed, or treated in any way.The pattern can be loose or tightly-coiled.Natural hair requires extra care when dyeing. If you don't do it right, you can damage your hair. The color will show up better if you know which products to use.
Step 1: You should wash your hair before dyeing it.
You want your hair to be clean, but not too clean.Your hair will be free of dirt and build-up if you wash it 3 to 4 days before the dyeing process.3 to 4 days before you dye your hair is a good time to avoid using too many hair products. This includes cream and gel.
Step 2: Take care of your hair on the day you dye it.
Leave-in conditioner cream or spray can be used.Allow your hair to dry out, or use a hair dryer on a cool setting. You can dye your hair after it is dry.Your hair will be nourished by the conditioner.
Step 3: If you want a bright color, bleach and tone your hair.
Divide your hair into 4 equal sections. To make sure each strand is saturated, apply the bleach to the 2 inch partings within those sections. If you want to check your hair every 5 to 10 minutes, leave it on for the recommended time.Next, rinse the bleach out.Follow the instructions on the bottle to apply purple hair toner.Don't lighten your hair more than 3 times. If you want to lose weight, you should go to a trained hairdresser. If you use a developer volume of 10 to 40 you can tell how many levels you're lifting your hair at.A 30 volume developer usually lifts 3 levels.Consider the act of balayage. You won't have to change your hair color as often because your roots will be your natural color.
Step 4: There is a dye specifically formulated for natural hair.
The box says "natural hair" or "women of color" on it.This type of dye is much softer than other boxed dyes.It is designed to work on porous hair.In case you run out, buy 2 to 3 boxes of hair dye.If you have short hair, you should get 1 box of hair dye.
Step 5: If you want to test the color and porosity, you can dye a small strand of hair.
After mixing up your dye, apply it to a thin strand of hair behind your ear.Wait for the time recommended on the package and watch the strand closely. If the strand didn't dye well, your hair is porous. If you want to avoid overprocessing your hair, do 2 dye sessions.Your hair is porous if the strand is dyed faster than the recommended time. The processing time should be cut down.If the strand got the right color, you're good to go.
Step 6: You need to protect your clothing, skin, and work area.
You can drape an old towel or dyeing cape around your shoulders.Shea butter or petroleum jelly can be applied to the skin.Pull on the gloves, then cover your floor and counter with a newspaper.
Step 7: Divide your hair into sections.
Start by cutting your hair in half, from forehead to nape.Next, cut your hair from ear to ear.Attach each section with a hair tie.If the sections are too thick, you will divide them up further as you dye them.
Step 8: The package has instructions on how to prepare the dye.
In most cases, you will need to pour or squeeze the dye into the developer, then close it and shake it.You should add the oil to the kit with the dye.A tube or bottle of conditioner can be found in your kit.Save it for later. If you are going for a lighter shade such as blonde, you should add a packet of color corrector to prevent it from turning brassy. You should read the instructions on the packet.
Step 9: From mid-lengths to the ends, apply the dye.
To make sure the dye is saturated throughout your hair, separate the hair sections into 2 inch (1.3 cm) parteds.Start by applying the dye to the middle of the shaft.Work the dye towards the ends. The back sections should be done first. As you finish the sections, be sure to tie or clip them.Don't apply the dye to the roots just yet.
Step 10: Then comb the dye through your hair.
In the previous step, apply the dye to the middle of the shaft, then work it down towards the ends. The sections in the back of your head should be done first. After dyeing your hair, remove the clips/hair ties and comb the dye through it with a wide-toothed comb.Don't apply the dye to the roots yet.You want to save your roots for the last.Start combing from the ends and work your way to the middle of the shaft.
Step 11: Start by applying the dye to the roots of your hair.
To apply a line of dye to your roots, use the nozzle of the bottle. If you need to, rub the dye into your hair away from the scalp and towards the middle of the shaft.Continue this way with the hair in the back and the front. The bottom-most layers should be done first when you reach the front. For the last part, save the front part.
Step 12: Wrap foil around your hair.
Make sure to fold the aluminum foil over the ends of the hair.Don't worry if your roots are exposed. The foil will help trap heat and make your hair absorb the dye better.Wrap a larger piece of foil around your head. The heat will be trapped further by this. The same effect can be achieved with a plastic shower cap.
Step 13: For the time recommended on the package, allow your dye to develop.
The brand that you are using affects how long this takes. It can be anywhere from 20 to 45 minutes. If you want to do this, you can use the timer on your phone, stove, or microwave.
Step 14: If you want to condition your hair, rinse the dye out with cool or warm water.
Remove the towel and aluminum foil when the time is over. The water will run clear if you rinse your hair under cool water. After applying the conditioner that came in the kit to your hair, rinse it out with cool water.Do not use hot water. The dye can rinse out completely if there are two of these.Use any color-safe or sulfate-free conditioner if you didn't get the conditioner in your kit.
Step 15: It's a good idea to wash your hair with cool water.
Hot water damages hair and can cause it to become more dry and frizzy. If you want your hair to be healthier, wash it with cool water. This will help the dye last longer.
Step 16: Don't use sulfate-free products.
There are products that would work for color-treated hair.Sulfates will remove the dye from your hair, so don't use conditioners that contain sulfates.
Step 17: Take care of your hair with oils, butters, and creams.
You can use store-bought oils and butters, or natural ones, such as coconut oil and shea butter. If your hair starts to feel dry, apply the oils, butters, and creams.
Step 18: You should use a deep conditioner on your hair at least once a week.
Store-bought masks can be used for the deep conditioning mask. The mask should be applied to damp hair.Wait 20 minutes and then rinse your hair out.If you use a store-bought mask, make sure it does not contain sulfates.
Step 19: The heat styling and chemical treatments should be limited.
If you bleach or dye your hair, you want to give it a break.Do not relax your hair after dyeing it.If you want to make your hair look better, use a heat protectant and a low-heat setting on your flat iron.Allow your hair to dry.
