How To Edit Group Policy in Windows XP

The Group Policy snap-in can be used to develop or edit the list of applications that load automatically when you log into a PC running on Windows.

Step 1: This option can be used if you want to develop or change the list of applications that load automatically when you log into your PC.

Follow the instructions listed below.

Step 2: Click the Start button.

Step 3: From the popup menu, choose Run and in the dialog box that appears, type MMc and press the enter key or click OK.

Step 4: You can add or remove snap-in from the menu bar.

Step 5: Click on Group Policy Object Editor to find the tab labeled Available Stand-alone snap-ins.

Click Add and then choose finish.

Step 6: If you don't want to edit the local computer policy, click on the button labeled browse to find the group policy object you want.

When prompted, give your user name and password.

Step 7: When you get back to the Select Group Policy Object dialog box, click finish.

Step 8: Click OK if you want to add or remove the snap-in.

Step 9: The Local Computer Policy is located in the left pane of the Group Policy snap-in.

The Administrative Templates as well as the Computer Configuration should also be extended.Click on the Logon object to extend the System object.

Step 10: Click on the "Run these programs at user logon" option from the right side of the window.

Step 11: Click on the button labeled Show if you want to enable it.

In the dialogue box that appears, choose Add and type the name of the file you want to modify, then click on OK.You don't have to outline the path if the files are stored in the %System root% directory.

Step 12: Click OK two times if you want to include extra objects to the items.
