Adding ginger juice to foods and beverages can offer a host of health benefits. The most efficient method is using a juicer, but they can get pricey, and you may not have one handy. If you don't have a juicer or blender, you can simply strain ginger root through a sheet of cheesecloth. You can blend ginger with water and strain it.If fresh ginger juice doesn't last long, use the amount you need immediately, then freeze the rest for up to 6 months.
Step 1: Before you juice your ginger root, wash and dry it.
Under cold running water, thoroughly rinse the ginger.Use a vegetable scrubbing brush to remove dirt on the surface. After washing it, pat the ginger dry.For an effective washing method, soak ginger or other produce in a bowl of cold water with baking soda for 15 minutes. The amount of ginger root depends on how much juice you need.If you only need a small amount of juice, wash and cut off a piece of root.Depending on the method you use, 8 to 10oz of ginger will yield about 2 to 4 c (120 to 180 mL) of juice. If your ginger root is damaged, peel it and cut it off. There is no need to peel it if it is fresh and blemish-free.
Step 2: You can grate ginger with a microplane.
The ginger root can be run over a microplane. The ginger can be collected by placing a bowl beneath the microplane.A microplane is a handheld device. It can also be used to mincing ginger. If you don't have a microplane, you can grate ginger with a garlic press.Take a piece of ginger root and put it in the press, then squeeze together the handles to mince it.
Step 3: The ginger can be strained through the cheesecloth.
The bowl of ginger should be dumped into a sheet of cheesecloth.Put the ball over the bowl or cup and squeeze it to get the juice from the ginger. The ginger needs to be squeezed until it is as dry as possible. It is easy to strain ginger and does not require expensive equipment. It is less efficient and you will get less juice from it.
Step 4: Dry and wash 5 ounces of ginger root.
If you have ginger, rinse it under cold water and scrub it off.You can dry it with a paper towel or cloth. The amount of ginger root is dependent on how much juice you need.If you blend 5 ounces of ginger with water, you can make about 1 to 12 c of juice. If you only need a small amount of juice, blend a piece of ginger root with 2 to 3 ounces of water.
Step 5: The ginger should be cut into 2 in chunks.
Chop the ginger root with a cutting board. It will be easier to use smaller chunks. If you want your ginger root to be fresh, leave it unpeeled. If you have to, peel it and cut it off.
Step 6: The ginger needs 2 to 1 c of water.
The ginger chunks should be put in your blender. For 1 to 2 minutes, blend the ginger and water. The more water you use, the less ginger juice you will get.If the ginger doesn't become pulpy, start with 2 c (120 mL) and add more.To get even more flavor out of the ginger root, blend it with a mixture of alcohol and water. It is possible to evaporate most of the alcohol from the final product by simmering the juice for 1 to 2 hours.
Step 7: The ginger pulp can be strained through a strainer.
If you want to collect ginger bits, cover the rim of a jug or bowl with a cloth. When you squeeze the ginger from the cheesecloth, make sure it is as dry as possible. The ginger juice will be less concentrated since you added water to blend it.If you need a stronger ginger flavor, you can cook the juice to evaporate water.
Step 8: The liquid should be reduced to concentrate the flavor.
Bring the ginger juice to a boil in a saucepan over medium heat. The juice should be reduced in volume by 1/3 to 1/2 by setting the heat to low and simmering it.Adding alcohol to the water will evaporate most of the alcohol content. There are pockets of small bubbles that erupt to the surface from time to time. The liquid is boiling if you see rolling bubbles.
Step 9: Remove the ginger root from it's shell and pat it dry.
You can scrub your ginger under the cold running water with a vegetable scrubbing brush. After rinsing it, dry it off with paper towels or a cloth. If you use a juicer, you can get about 4 c (180 mL) of concentrated ginger juice.
Step 10: Cut the ginger into chunks.
Unless it is blemished, leave the ginger unpeeled. You can put it into the juicer's feed tube.Cut off any dead skin.
Step 11: The ginger should be put into the juicer.
The juicer has a cup or bowl under it.The ginger can be pushed through the feed tube with the help of the juicer's motor.Check your juicer's manual to make sure you use it as directed. If you want to juice the root ginger, turn off the juicer. The user manual has instructions on how to disassemble and clean it.
Step 12: If you're making a mixed juice, drink ginger first.
If you want to add ginger to an existing juice recipe, start by feeding a piece of ginger into a tube. You can juice ingredients with high water content.Fruits and veggies with a lot of water will wash out the juicer and help you get as much ginger juice and flavor as possible.Any combination of ingredients can get a kick from ginger.A piece of ginger, 3 pears, and 2 celery sticks can be juiced. You can also juice a piece of ginger, 2 stalks of fennel, half of a cucumber, a green apple, and a handful of mint leaves.
