How to find what type of flare is on your brake line

Since 1995 there have been original equipment suppliers for automotive and light truck brake applications.

There are two basic types of flares. There are two flares: the SAE/double and the DIN/ISO bubble flare. We will refer to them as a flare. The most common is the SAE flare. The European style DIN flare is found on all American and Asian cars.

Don't use a single flare on automotive components. The double flare standard is tolerant of production variations, but the assembly must be the same standard. On steel brake lines, single flares are not allowed.

If your brake line looks like a small funnel going into the tubing, and the back side of the flare is at a 45 degree angle, it is the SAE flare.

If the end of the tubing looks like a button, and the flare has a 90 degree back side angle, it's not the DIN flare. You need a nut with a lead for the flare.

The port is where the line goes.If the bottom looks like a volcano, it is a flare seat.
