It is easy to fit a new headboard to your bed.If you want to attach the floor-standing headboards to your bed, you need to screw the bolts through the headboard's struts and into the appropriate screw holes.The wall is a popular alternative to the bed.
Step 1: Before buying, measure between the screw holes.
The divan beds have screw holes for the headboards to be added later.If you want to fit your bed, you need to know how far apart the struts are.Measure the distance between the bolts and screw holes on the back of the bed.Larger beds may have more than one hole in a vertical line, but they don't need to be measured.The horizontal distance from a hole toward one side of the bed to one that's level with it toward the other is what you want.If you plan to mount your headboard to the wall, this step is not necessary.
Step 2: Determine how wide your bed is.
Measure from one corner of the head to the other.If you want the headboard to back any furniture, you have to decide.Measure the distance between the bed and the pieces.You can add those figures to your total width.The corner of the bed's head is where the Headboards typically project up to three inches.If you are backing other furniture, apply the rule to the farthest side of the bed.
Step 3: How high should it be?
From head to foot, measure the length of the bed.Measure its height, including the mattress.The figures can be used to determine how high your mattress should be.The top of the mattress is 14 inches higher than the standard headboards.The bed's length should be less than the extra tall headboards.
Step 4: Find the divan's screw holes.
The divan has two holes, one toward either side.You can see where each is most often found by looking at the side corner and top of the frame.If the fabric's pattern makes it difficult to spot, feel with your hand for the holes.It is easier to find the holes in frames that have bolts in place.Larger beds may have more than one screw hole in a vertical line.
Step 5: The frame needs to be screwed to the struts.
Remove bolts if your frame already has them.The frame's screw holes should be lined up with the struts.Attach the bolt to the screw hole through the gap in the strut.Start by tightening the bolt to the frame, but don't tighten it all the way to where the headboard is.It is advisable to have more than one partner to hold the headboard steady.It's a good idea to use top- heavy sholders while you work.If your bed frame does not include bolts, you should contact the manufacturer to find out which size is required so you can purchase them separately.
Step 6: The headboard should be adjusted to your height.
If you place your mattress on the frame, you'll be able to see how high your headboard is.The headboard can be raised or lowered.If you need to loosen the bolts, do so.To confirm that both sides are raised equally high, use a level to determine how high or low you want it to be.The bolts have to be tightened all the way to the headboard.If you want to add height to your mattress, add foam or electric sheets.You will be able to judge its height with less fuss if you have partner(s) to raise and lower it.
Step 7: Start off the same way.
The bed has screw holes in it's head.Remove the bolts if you find them.Purchase bolts of the right size for the holes you find.The floor-standing headboards and those with struts are installed the same way.
Step 8: Stand the bed up.
The headboard itself is built into the floor-standing struts.The bottom end is where this is.The frame's head is behind the headboard.The screws are in the frame.The bottom of the bed should be flush on the floor.The difference between the two is that the floor-standing headboards should do that.You shouldn't adjust the height the same way as you would with simple struts.
Step 9: The bed needs to be secured.
Put a bolt through the gap.Attach it to the screw hole.The headboard should be firmly attached to the frame if you tighten it all the way.If you want the bed frame to remain flush against it, you should have a partner hold the headboard up.
Step 10: Measure and mark.
Determine how high the bed should be from the floor.Measure the height of the headboard to see where the cleat needs to be installed.The height of the headboard's bottom from the floor is measured in pencil on the wall.The top is on the floor.A fourth of the way down.
Step 11: Find and mark.
The area where the headboard will be mounted is behind the wall.Two studs are closest to the center of your bed for a single cleat.You can mark each one's location with a pencil on the wall at the height of your third measurement, which is a fourth of the way down.Even if it isn't perfectly centered over your bed, mount your cleat to the studs.A cleat mounted to studs will be stronger than a cleat attached to the wall.Two cleats are required for king-size headboards.Four studs are closest to your bed's center.There is a standard spacing between studs.
Step 12: Measure and install the cleat.
The cleat needs to be put into the studs.Make sure it is immobile and secure.Measure from the bottom of the cleat to where the headboard will be mounted.Make sure the cleat is strong enough to support your weight by testing it before hanging it.
Step 13: Attach the cleat plate.
Refer to your instructions if you want to find out where to attach the cleat plate.Determine how much height to add.Then mark the back of your bed.Make sure your marks are in line with the cleat on the wall.The installed cleat should fit over the cleat plate on the back of the headboard.
Step 14: Put your head up and secure it.
Lift the cleat plate to make it fit between the wall and the headboard.Next, use your stud- finder to locate two new studs behind the headboard, one on each side.Attach an angle iron to each stud to support the headboard from the bottom.Refer to your cleat's instructions for the recommended size iron.Check for recommendations on how to attach the spacers to the back of the bed.The cleat can cause the wall to project from the top.The spacers at the bottom will keep the headboard straight.The recommended size can be different by brand or model.
