VHS tapes were not always perfect. They broke or got stuck in the VCR.It usually happens to the tape you care about the most.If you have ever had a VHS tape that wouldn't play, rewind, or fast forward, you might be able to fix it.If you want to do a VHS to DVD transfer or watch the tape again, you need to fix this issue.Tapes get stuck when one of the reels gets caught on a cassette mechanism or there is a foreign object in the tape. There is a way to easily remove a VHS tape.
The first thing to do is manually rewind the cassette. The white reels will not turn in either direction. To do this, you will need to press something thin like a paper click or pencil into the back of the VHS tape. When you press the button, the reels will be unlocked so that they can be turned in either direction.Try using your fingers or scissors to turn the reels a few times. If you have any luck, you will be able to see what is causing the problem.
If you can't turn the reels after pressing the button, you're going to have to open the tape and look inside. This is usually a case of a broken internal mechanism. To separate the two shells, remove the screws from the back of the cassette. This is where you can find a guide on how to do this. When you separate the tape, try to locate the source of the problem by turning the reels or lifting them out.It is highly recommended to transfer the tape to a new cassette if you are experiencing a broken internal mechanism.
Wow!I found a solution to my problem in the early hours of the morning. When I wake up, I will attempt to do this.Thank you for night and thanks again.I will let you know how it goes.
I am manually rewinding VHS tapes for my 5 year old at our camper, thanks to your advice.
I have no idea what vhs terminology is for viewing them.I think my vhs tape is a tracking issue.Sound is all there, but there is some slight distortion throughout. This doesn't happen with any other VHS tapes I view, so I assume it's this tape.If there isn't a solution for me, is that something your professional experience could fix?I would like to know if the tape could be salvaged for the Trekkie.Thank you for the information.
Tracking is probably the problem you are facing.I usually fix this problem by simply trying it on different decks.I have multiple decks of different brands and mechanics so this is much easier for me.If you have access to more VCRs, I would suggest that you bring them to one of our local stores. We might be able to help you figure it out.
I am new to computers and email, so I will double check if you received my previous email.Thx.
I have an old VHS tape that shows nothing but black and white lines and plays audio, but it is distorted, fast and high pitched. This is a family video and I would love to fix it.What could be the problem?Thank you!
Magnetic damage, tape degradation, and many other factors can cause this problem.Try to play it in multiple VCRs to see if you get better results. If you don't want to bring it in, you can mail the tape to one of our offices and our trained video technicians can look at it.We have been able to recover video from tapes that wouldn't play on other VCRs.It might be beneficial to try a transfer since your tape still has some data.
Thanks for your information on taking care of a jammed VHS tape!I am going through old VHS tapes to get ready for the move to dvd's.Several deceased family members are on one of them.I was worried that it would be useless. Thanks to your information, I unjammed it and rewound it.Thank you so much!!
My wife is 73 and cannot convert to DVD, so I record programs for her on my VCRs.Some of the tapes are getting tired and I just wanted to tell someone who understands, that today I threw out a tape that was dated 19 February 1992 and it was 25 years old.It has been repaired a few times.I was able to get to the insides because the case was screwed together. The spine label has been cut several times.Cheers.
I am fixing an old broken home video tape of me and my sister and Green Day is playing on the radio. What are the chances? Thanks for that!I was able to fix my video tape.!
I have a memorex vhs model that isn't rewinding tapes. The motor will not stop.
