Since the Genesis of Electronically Controlled Refrigerators in 2000, one of the first questions I am asked during training is "How do I run a forced defrost on a Samsung Refrigerator?"
As a Field Engineer, the reason is obvious; defrost system components are among the top replaced parts for a "no cool" complaint.It's important that the system can be tested.There are many more procedures that need this.
Before removing the Direct Contact Icemaker, you need to run a forced defrost.An icemaker is included in the system.The ice maker's heater loop is also activated by Force Defrost on the seven-segment displays.
Force Defrost can also be activated by other electric heaters in the appliance.They may include the fill tube heater, damper door heaters, and duct heaters.
If you remove the icemaker from the cooling tube it will result in a new refrigerator for the customer.Wait, there is more!
Force Defrost is needed before attempting to remove the cover from the evaporator.If not, the compressed foam type insulation behind the cover will break, and the air flow will be severely compromised upon reassembly.
Press the Power Freeze and Fridge buttons at the same time, until the display goes blank.Press any other button until "Fd" appears.A sound will be heard as the freezer thaws.
Press the Freezer and Lighting buttons at the same time, until the display goes blank.Press any other button until "Fd" appears.
The power must be disconnected after the defrost is over.Refer to the Fast Track Document to verify the model.You must refer to the Fast Track for older models with bar level display.
It should take about 20 minutes.This is quicker than a manual defrost.
You may feel like there isn't much happening.This is an indication that the force defrost is on.
