How To Format Windows

You can learn how to format any hard drive that is connected to your PC.The Disk Management tool can be used to format one drive connected to the PC.You can use the Reset this PC feature in your settings if you want to wipe all data from your computer.Before you format your PC, be sure to back up your personal files and serial numbers.

Step 1: You can open your windows settings.

The gear icon can be found in the Start menu.Depending on your hard drive, it can take hours.The formatting process is not interrupted if your computer is plugged into a reliable power source.If you can't sign in to the PC, press Shift and then boot.Go to step 5 after the PC comes back up.

Step 2: Click Update and Security.

It's the option with two curved arrows.

Step 3: In the left panel, click Recovery.

You can find your recovery options in the right panel.

Step 4: Under "Reset This PC", click to get started.

The first button is in the right panel.

Step 5: Select to remove everything.

This option will wipe the hard drive.After the process is complete, you will have to uninstall any third-party apps.

Step 6: You can change setttings.

There are two new options.

Step 7: The switch should be moved to the On position.

Unless you switch on this switch, your hard drive won't be formatted.

Step 8: Click confirm.

This is where the process of wiping the data from your computer begins.You'll be asked to set the PC up as new when it's done reinstalling.

Step 9: There is a Disk Management tool in Windows.

If you want to format a hard drive connected to your PC that isn't the primary drive, use this method.Press Win+S to open the search bar.You can type disk management.You can find the results by clicking in the search results.There is a partition list in the top half of the window, while a physical hard drive list is at the bottom.

Step 10: If the drive is new, create a partition.

If you can see the disk number in the bottom half of the tool, you don't need to do this.Click the drive you want to prepare and select.Next to the hard drive is a box.You can choose if the drive is larger or smaller.Click.Click the "Unallocated" box to the right of the disk.Click.Click if you would like to specify a partition size.Click if you want to select a letter for the drive.Go to step 5.

Step 11: Click on the partition you want to format.

The context menu will expand.

Step 12: The format is on the menu.

Step 13: The hard drive's name should be entered into the "Volume label" field.

This is how the drive will be identified on your computer.

Step 14: Go to the "File system" menu.

The file system is used in Windows 10.This option is what you need if you don't know what to do.

Step 15: From the "Allocation unit size" menu, select Default.

You can specify an amount if you have specific instructions.Most of the time, the default option works.

Step 16: There is a box next to "Perform a quick format".

A full format takes several hours because it checks the drive for damage.A quick format doesn't require an in-depth check.

Step 17: To format the drive, click OK.

A confirmation window will open.Depending on your hard drive, it can take hours.If you have a laptop that isn't plugged in to a power source, you should plug it in now.

Step 18: Click OK to confirm.

The drive will be formatted according to the selected parameters.
