If you have a home lab or work environment where you own a switch, you may have encountered a situation in which you want to wipe the entire switch configuration, including any VLANs that are already configured on the switch (usually the vlan.dat file).
One thing that can be done to erase the switch startup configuration is another thing.There is a file with the name vlan.dat in the flash storage of the switch.You can see this file if you run the show flash command.
Before using a switch in another part of your network, it is a good practice to completely wipe out the switch configuration and switch Vlans.This is important because of the old configuration settings that are already configured on the switch.
The easy part is here.It is the same as removing the configuration from any other device.You need to uninstall the start-configuration and then restart the switch.
The Vlans are still there after you have deleted the switch configuration.

By using the command "show vlan brief", you can see that there are three vLans on the switch.The vlans are stored in a file called "vlan.dat" in the flash memory.If you read what is stored in the flash, you can see this file.
The file "vlan.dat" is stored in flash.All vlans on the switch have to be erased with the deletion of this file.
The command "delete vlan.dat" will be gone after you hit enter twice.You have to reload the switch.

It didn't work for me.The Cisco 2960x is a modem.The old file was reloaded and a new one was created with the same vlans.
