If curtains have been folded in a linen closet for a while, they can develop deep-setwrinkles.If you need to treat the signs of aging without taking them down, there are a number of easy options. If you want to get the curtains out, try steaming them in your bathroom, ironing them, or drying them with a damp towel. If you need to wash them anyways, hanging up the curtains is a good option. If all else fails, take your curtains to a dry cleaner.
Step 1: The curtains should be misted with plain water.
Put a clean spray bottle with plain water in it and spray the curtains wherever you see them. The curtains should hang while they are dry.The weight of the curtains along with the water may be enough to smooth out the wrinkling. You can use a combination of white and water to mist the curtains.
Step 2: The curtains can be sprayed with a product.
Wrinkle-release product can be used to spray wrinkled spots on curtains. You can mist the curtains. The curtains should be allowed to air dry.The curtains are heavy so they will smooth out thewrinkle over the next few hours.Try another option if the curtains still appear wrinkled after 24 hours.
Step 3: You can use a handheld steamer to clean the curtains.
After filling the steamer with water, turn it on.The steamer will move from the top of the curtains to the bottom. The curtains should be dry over the next 24 hours.Try a different option if the curtains are wrinkled.
Step 4: There is an iron against the curtains.
If your iron has a steam setting, fill it with water and turn it on.Put the iron against the curtains so that it is about 6 in (15 cm) away from the fabric.Press the button on the iron to release steam and then move it back and forth over the wrinkled areas. If you want to steam the entire length of the curtain, start at the top and move down towards the bottom.Don't hold the iron over one area of the curtain for too long.It takes about 3 to 5 seconds to steam each section.
Step 5: The curtains should be placed in the dryer with a damp towel.
Take the curtains off the curtain rod and put them into the dryer.Wait until the towel is just damp.Run the dryer on low to medium heat for 20 to 30 minutes after putting the towel or washcloth in.Then, hang the curtains again. If the towel is still wet when you check on the curtains, run the dryer for another 5 to 10 minutes.
Step 6: To create steam, hang the curtains over the shower rod.
Put the curtains over the shower rod in your bathroom.Turn on the hot water and close the bathroom door.Allow the bathroom to fill with steam for 5 to 10 minutes, then turn off the water. The curtains should hang in the bathroom for about 30 minutes. They should be hung up to dry on the curtain rod.The curtains should be completely dry by this time.
Step 7: You can iron the curtains.
Put the curtains on the ironing board or on top of a towel on a table or bed after removing them from the curtain rod.The curtains should be iron on the lowest setting. The iron should be moved slowly over each section of the curtains.
Step 8: The curtains should be washed.
If your curtains are wrinkled and need to be washed, take them off of the curtain rod and check the care instructions. If the care instructions say it's okay to use a washing machine, check to see what settings are recommended. If the care tag states that the curtains need to be washed on the delicate setting with warm water, wash them according to these instructions.
Step 9: If possible, put the curtains in the dryer.
After the wash cycle is over, put the curtains in the dryer.Follow the instructions on the curtains care tag if you want to change the settings. The curtains should be dry for about 20 to 30 minutes. The curtains should be removed from the dryer when the cycle is over. The curtains should be removed from the dryer immediately after the cycle is over.
Step 10: Hang the curtains.
The curtains should be taken out of the dryer while they are still damp. The curtain rod will be dried and this will help to remove any remaining wrinkling.Spread the curtains out so that the air can circulate around them and they will dry evenly.Depending on how thick the curtains are, it may take 1 to 2 days for them to dry.To speed up the drying process, try opening the windows and aiming a fan at the curtains.
