Direct mail is received by a large amount of people in the US.Addresses and names can be found from phone books, public records and business accounts.They are bought by other companies that want to expand their customer database.If you have been receiving a lot of catalogs, credit card offers, mail offers and magazines, then you can take steps to remove your name from their lists for at least 5 years.If you opt out of offers, the companies may require you to remove your address.You can learn how to get off a direct marketing list.
Step 1: For a few weeks to a month, save your direct mail.
You will need to get in touch with some of these companies.You should know who is using your name and address.
Step 2: Direct Mail Association's (DMA) mail preference website can be found at www.dmachoice.org.
You can choose what direct mail you want.The Direct Mail Association has 3,000 organizations that use the mail preference website to update their listings.
Step 3: "New User?" Click on it.
You can register on the website in the upper right hand corner.
Step 4: The form needs your name, address, email and password.
You can add more than one address.Click on the button.
Step 5: You can get an activation link by looking in your email inbox or junk mail folder.
Click on the link to open your account.You will be taken to the website.
Step 6: You must have an email and password to access the website.
Step 7: The "Manage My Mail" box can be found on the left hand side of the page.
Step 8: You can click on the credit offers.
The site Opt Out Prescreen.com manages pre-approved credit offers from the major credit bureaus and companies.Click on the option to opt out.opt-out of pre-screened credit offers for 5 years via electronic submission or start the process of permanently removing your name and address by mailYou have to complete the process on the website for 5 years.You can submit a permanent opt-out request after you sign a Permanent Opt- Out Election Form.If you want to be removed from the marketing lists, you will need to provide your social security number.Your social security number is associated with your credit history.
Step 9: Return to the website window.
The "Manage My Magazines" tab is where you can choose.There is a list of magazine titles.Click "Save" if you want to stop magazine offers.If you only want to stop specific offers, you should gather all the magazines in your junk mail pile that you no longer want.Click on the title of the magazine to find them.The customer service line is 888-291-6556.You should not sell your name to any other organizations if you ask the magazine.It can take up to 90 days to remove mail campaigns.
Step 10: Return to the website.
You can choose the "Catalogs" tab.In order to opt-out completely or contact the catalog company directly, repeat the same procedure you did with your magazines.
Step 11: Click "Other Mail offers" to return to your account.
The list should include companies that use the website.Click "Save" if you want to stop all mail offers.This will make your address an opt-out address for all offers.If you only want to stop the direct mail offers that you have recently received, select the companies individually.
Step 12: If you have any flyers or advertising supplements, get them.
Many of these are dropped off at your door.If you want to take the business off the distribution list, you need to find the address, look up the phone number, and call.
Step 13: Direct mail lists are always being created.
Your name can be added to new lists as a result of store loyalty programs, charities, surveys and product registration.Set a date every 6 months to call new companies and remove your name if you join these programs.
Step 14: You can return to your account to find out more about the companies that keep sending you offers.
You will need to return in 5 years if you want to remove your name and address again.
