How to glue foam together is a topic that is covered in The Foam Factory.
As people look for ways to stretch a dollar, find a new hobby, or take greater ownership of the things in and around their lives, do-it-yourself projects are more popular than they have ever been.People aren't only taking on more of the typical at- home projects, they are also expanding their efforts into areas formerly reserved for trade workers or craftsmen.
With more than 30 years in the comfort and support industry, The Foam Factory has seen the evolution and progression of many trends in home furnishings.Things people used to replace or purchase without a second thought are now being fixed or built at home with the potential for customization beyond what can be purchased in stores.
As the scope of projects people are willing to take on widens, custom seating cushions have become one particularly popular endeavor. It is possible to make your own cushions from The Foam Factory's open-cell foam. The hurdle that slows people down after they buy foam for a project is when they realize it can't be created using just a single piece of material. There is a simple solution to this problem.
It has been a standard industry practice for decades to glue something as soft and flexible as foam.It is a very simple process that can be done at home for do-it-yourselfers.It is possible to put together a top-notch end-product with a few tips.
The difference between pieces of foam is made by the glue used to bond them together. Some glues aren't able to form a strong bond, and in a worst case scenario, the wrong glue can cause a breakdown of the material. It is possible to find glue for foam that is specifically designed for use with different types. When the wrong glue is used, it can break down, which is why The Foam Factory has adhesives designed for bonding open-cell foam.
Products used for comfort and support do not need to change the qualities of the glues for foam. The application method assures distribution across large surfaces. The glues are flexible and strong. The forming of a hard seam in a cushion is prevented by this. The foam can be flexed and compressed without tearing. While a lot of do-it-yourself is using on-hand materials, spray adhesives are the right tool for the job and perform in ways white glue or brush-on paste can't.
It is important to know the right way to bond the separate pieces of foam once you have gathered the materials for the project.Wait a few seconds for the glue to get tacky when you glue foam.Cut foam should be compressed as firmly as possible after you align it.This pressure works the glue deeper into each piece.Instead of a thick and rigid glue line that would be present if the foam was gently compressed, tightly squeezed foam seams create gradual bonds that make cushion pads stronger and more flexible.
Extra-large pieces of foam are difficult to glue together, but this method is easy when dealing with items like smaller cushions or throw pillows. One way to make sure you get the strongest bond possible is to squeeze the foam pieces together from both sides.Using two fingers and your thumb, pinch the seam being glue, firmly holding for a few seconds before moving down the foam.If you are careful, you can get a strong bond on the largest cushions. Before declaring the project complete, be sure to turn the cushion over and pinch the bottom edge.Just minutes after pinching, even larger cushions should be ready to be re-covered and relaxed on.
For only the cost of glue and foam, you should be able to create cozy seating in your house.
