Over the door wreath hangers are usually metal, plastic or acrylic, and can be stretched out sideways. They are made to rest on top of the door and then have a sloped piece in the front. They come in a few different lengths.

The easiest way to hang a wreath is with plastic or metal wreath hangers. They are inexpensive and I often see them at the Dollar Store. It's pretty fool proof.Attach it to the top of the door and hang it.It was easy!
Sometimes the door frame isn't big enough for the thinnest door hangers. They can prevent the door from closing.Doors get scratched and dinged up when this happens. The front of the door may be damaged by rubbing against the paint.
If you want to make this wreath, you need to check out my Rainbow Hydrangea wreath recipe. There is a small Command Hook.
A wreath hanger doesn't work with the style of the door. Some of the prettiest doors will not work with an over the door wreath hook. This category includes doors with windows or detail work. The hook does not hang in the right spot.It hangs too high or covers the window.
There are some wreath that don't fit on a wreath hanger. One example is my tulip wreath. It's too heavy to rest properly in the hook part of the hanger, because it uses a foam wreath base.I use a loop on the back of my tulip wreath to hold the wreath in place. It won't fit without it.My ornament wreath has a similar problem, with all those ornaments, it's just too bulky to rest in a wreath hanger without a loop on the back.
Sometimes a wreath hanger doesn't match the style of the wreath. With a lot of the more modern wreath, a wreath hanger just doesn't look right. The simple wire or hoop frames distract from the modern love wreath below. Some plain wreath may need more visual interest than a boring hook, and you may want to hang it with ribbon.
There are pros and cons to the wreath Hanger.
It may not match the style of wreath and may be too thick for door jamb.
Enthusiasm for technology! It is easy to find and hang self-adhesive hooks. The hooks are made of plastic and have a piece of foam attached to them.Pull the tab and the hook will pop off without damaging the surface.amzn_assoc_placement is "adunit0", and the "howtomom-20" is a "manual".
Command Hooks from 3M are a very easy way to hang a wreath on your door.If you are a risk taker, just measure.Put a hook on the door, window or mirror after removing the paper backing.Voila!
There are a variety of styles of hooks.Depending on the look you are going for, you may want a more visible hook.To give a floating effect, try a smaller hook or a clear outdoor hook.
Command Hooks are perfect if you want to hang a wreath with ribbon, since you can control the height of the hook. The back of the door is where people hang wreath with ribbon.More on that in another post!
If you need to hang a wreath on a surface other than a door, these hooks are ideal.
Damage to the paint or finish of the surface is the only draw back to these hooks. Most brands do their best to make sure there isn't any damage, but there is a chance.I know from previous mistakes. If you don't pull that tab slowly, the hook can snap off and leave you without a pull.It will take a chunk of the wall with it if it pops the whole hook off.The face palm!
There are pros and cons to self-adhesive hooks.
You could nail a tiny nail into your door or wall to hang your wreath. You don't have to worry about it damaging a chunk of paint if you swap out wreath whenever you want. Most wreath should hold nails just fine.
This is a permanent solution that my non-committing heart wouldn't recommend.I don't think it's possible to pick one spot and commit to it forever. It's fine for your Christmas wreath, but what about your spring wreath?!
I thought I would share some other ways to display or hang a wreath.
It is possible to hang a wreath indoors on a smooth surface like a window or mirror. Before attaching the cup to the surface, make sure it's moist. There is a link to some cups with hooks.
A wreath stand is a great place to display a wreath.I like the look of them near a fireplace. There is a zero damage, zero commitments option.

If you need to be careful about damaging a door, I would recommend using a clear acrylic wreath hanger. If the surface seems tough, you could probably use a Command Hook. Some apartment doors are made of metal, so you can use a magnetic hook to open them.If your wreath is heavy, it may not be strong enough to hold it up.
There are many doors with windows.I remember seeing a door in St Louis that had a glass insert.I would suggest using a Command Hook on either the glass or the door.I think you could hang the wreath with ribbon or fishing line, and use a tiny nail in the window frame. You might need to experiment with wreath placement.Sometimes a wreath may look better centered in the glass, or other times it may be better with a traditional 1/3 placement. You can place it below the door.
You will need to use a Command Hook in order to get the proper placement for extra tall doors.A wreath is likely to be put at a weird height. On an extra tall door, I would aim for somewhere between eye-level and 1/3 up the door.Another option is to hang a hook upside down on the back of the door and then hang the wreath with a ribbon over it.For holidays, this can have a beautiful dramatic effect.
You may need to come up with a unique wreath placement for unique doors.I would use Command Hook to compliment the style of the door. The style of wreath can either compliment or detract from the door.
It can be difficult to hang a wreath in a storm or screen door.As long as the wreath isn't too thick, you can hang it on your regular door.People hang the wreath on the storm door using a clear Command Hook. The wreath can be hung under a light fixture or house number.
For floating/hidden hanging with mirrors, I would suggest using a suction cup with hooks. If you want to use ribbon to drop your wreath down to a desired height, you can either use a hook on the front of the mirror or an upside down hook.If you want to actually look in the mirror, you may not want the wreath at eye level. The tack on the top edge of the mirror could be used to hook the ribbon or fishing line.
If you want the wreath to be flush to the window, you should use Command Hooks directly on the glass. To hang a wreath in front of a window, I would use a nail or tack right about the window frame, and then either use fishing line or ribbon to drop the wreath down to the desired height. This look is very popular during the holidays.
It's a great way to decorate for the holidays. To hang a smaller wreath on a cupboard, use a Command Hook on the front of the door and hang it directly on that.Or, hang the hook upside down on the back of the cupboard door and tie the wreath up with the ribbon.
Try brick clips or siding clips to hang a wreath without drilling holes. The brick clips have a small hook for hanging. The siding clips slip between the slats of sliding and rest in place, giving you the freedom to hang whatever you want.I have seen wreath hung between windows or on a porch.

You can hire a landscaping company.Command Hooks that slip in between the screen frame and window frame, Christmas light clips, brick clips and siding clips are some of the things you can use if you want to do it yourself.
Hope that helps! If you have a tricky wreath question, I would be happy to help. You can send me an email at thehowtomom.
