How To Highlight Duplicates on Google Sheets on PC or Mac
In order to highlight the cells with duplicate values using a computer, you'll have to use a custom formula.
Step 1: Go to the internet browser and open the sheets.
If you want to return to sheets.google.com, type it into the address bar.
Step 2: Click on the spreadsheet you want to modify.
You can find the spreadsheet you want to use on your saved sheets list.
Step 3: You can choose the cells you want to exclude.
To select the adjacent cells, click a cell and drag your mouse.
Step 4: You can click on the format tab.
The tabs bar at the top of your spreadsheet has a button on it.A drop-down menu will open.
Step 5: You can change the format on the menu.
This will open the sidebar on the right side of the screen.
Step 6: The drop-down menu has "Format cells if" on it.
You can use this to open a list of filters.
Step 7: The drop-down menu has a Select Custom formula on it.
This option will allow you to manually enter a formula.
Step 8: The "Value or formula" box has a type labeled "COUNTIF(A:A,A1)."
You can highlight the duplicate cells in the selected range with this formula.Change A:A and A1 in the formula to your selected column if the range of cells you're editing is in a different column than column A.For example, if you're editing cells on column D, you should use the formula :COUNTIF(D:D,D1).
Step 9: The formula should be changed to the beginning cell of the range.
The first cell in your data range is indicated by this part of the custom formula.If the first cell of your selected data range is D5 you should use the formula:COUNTIF(D:D,D5).
Step 10: The button is blue.
This will highlight every duplicate cell in the selected range.
