The advantage of hitting a golf ball high with your irons is that it gives you an edge on the green. You can get over hills and traps on the course if you have more height. It is easier said than done. There are many ways to fix the problem of hitting line drives.Try some of these simple setup and swinging tips.
Step 1: Swing straight down at the ball if you stand close to it.
Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, with the ball in front of the line where your toes are.The closer you are to the ball, the better your position is.This will allow you to lift the ball up with a swing plane. If you want to test your ball positioning, take a slow practice swing. You can keep the club straight by finding the ball position. The swing plane will be more horizontal if you are too far away from the ball. The ball should be kept low and hit to the sides.
Step 2: The ball should be placed closer to your foot.
Place the ball in the middle of your legs.Move it closer to your foot. The ball will fly high if you hit it in the ideal spot.Don't put more than 1-2 ball lengths towards your front foot.It won't go very high if you hit it on the top.
Step 3: Put the ball on a tee to raise it.
If you don't normally use a tee, give it a try.The tee lifts the ball off the ground so you can get under it for a higher trajectory. If you tee the ball at 2–3 in, you will get a higher shot. The legal tee height for golf is up to 4 in (10 cm), so don't go above that when you're practicing.
Step 4: If you bend your knees, you can get underneath the ball.
It's harder to get under the ball if you stand straight up.Before you start your backswing, bend your knees slightly. You can get under the ball for a higher trajectory.Since your club might hit the ground, you might have to adjust your ball position again. If you want to keep the club straight, do another slow practice swing.
Step 5: The front shoulder should be raised a bit higher than the back shoulder.
To move your head and center of gravity back, tilt your front shoulder up a bit.It gives you more lift and keeps you behind the ball.
Step 6: The club head should be tilted away from you, towards the ball's outside edge.
You will get more lift and height at impact. If you are right-handed, aim to the right of your target.Aim to the left if you're left-handed.
Step 7: Stay loose throughout your swing by keeping the club loose.
It is harder to get under the ball if you are stiff. To gain more height, position your hands slightly ahead of the ball.If you are worried about the club flying out of your hands, use gloves with a strong grip.
Step 8: Before your backswing, shift most of your weight to your rear leg.
Stand with your weight on your rear foot and front foot divided by 60.This helps you lift the ball higher in your swing.Throw your weight back when you swing. For a high shot, maintain the weight distribution through the whole swing.
Step 9: Use your hip and shoulder to generate power.
The power to hit the ball high comes from your body.Turn your hip and shoulder back, away from your target, to start your backswing.Follow your shoulder and hip as you raise your club. You don't want to slide your back hips during your swing. You won't get any power from this and it throws your swing off.Your hips and shoulder should be back in order to get more power.
Step 10: On the backswing, put your hands behind your head.
You can keep the club straight with this high backswing. You won't get a high shot if your hands are low.If you can't tell where your hands are on your backswing, have someone watch. You could review the video later if you put a camera behind you.
Step 11: Swing with your body and you will get a lot of speed and power.
Don't be afraid to hit the ball. It's important to send the ball flying high. With the club following, move your hips and shoulders forward. You can hit the ball with a lot of force with this swing.Your hip and shoulder should be facing your target when you swing. You know you swung enough by this. While you're swinging, keep your head back. The ball has a lot of weight behind it.
Step 12: Hit the golf ball in the center for a strong shot.
It is not true that you need to hit the ball in a different spot.If you want a strong shot, try to hit it square in the center. It is possible to hit the ball above the center if it is flying too low.If you have to hit the ball lower, adjust your stance or swing to see where you are making contact.
Step 13: To send the ball high, follow-through vertically.
After you make contact with the ball, swing straight up.You can follow the trajectory of the ball with your head.Remember to keep at least 60 percent of your weight on your back foot during the swing.
