Straight razors can last for a long time with proper upkeep. It is important to learn how to hold a straight razor. The wrong way to hold a straight razor can cause irritation and cuts to your face and neck.Once you get the grip down, shaving with a straight razor will become second nature to you.
Step 1: You should hold the straight razor in your dominant hand.
You will be able to use the straight razor with the hand you normally shave with.If you shave with a non-dominant hand, use it.
Step 2: The back of the blade has your index, middle, and ring finger on it.
Put your fingers at the base of the blade. The handle and blade should connect when the ring finger is pressed against the pivot.
Step 3: Place your finger on the blade.
The pivot is the spot where the handle and blade connect and the thin curved part of the straight razor is located next to it.Keep your other 3 fingers on the back of the blade while resting your pinky finger.
Step 4: Rest your thumb on the blade.
It should be resting on the back of the blade if you place it near your index finger. The side of the blade that is facing the palm of your hand should have your thumb on it.
Step 5: You can cover your facial hair with shaving cream.
Don't shave with a straight razor without some kind of shaving cream or gel.A thick layer of shaving cream or gel will protect your skin.
Step 6: The razor blade should be held at a 30-degree angle.
You risk cutting yourself if you hold the blade against your skin.It won't work if the blade is against your skin. Before you start shaving, make sure to hold the blade at the right angle.
Step 7: Pull the area of skin with your free hand.
If you are holding the razor against the skin, place your fingers next to it.Pull the skin upward with your fingers.Pull the skin taut when you move on to a new area on your face or neck by moving your free hand. You can prevent yourself from cutting yourself by shaving over taut skin.
Step 8: The razor should be moved in a downward stroke.
Light pressure is applied to the razor blade.Lift the blade from your face after you make a short stroke.
Step 9: You can rinse the razor blade off in hot water.
Place the blade next to the spot you just shaved.Pull your skin taut and hold the blade at a certain angle.
Step 10: Make short strokes down your face and neck.
After each stroke, rinse the razor blade off.If you want the skin around your lips to be taut, you need to stretch your mouth open.If you missed any spots, look in the mirror. If you did, apply shaving cream to those areas again and use the straight razor.
