Today's Windows operating system requires more memory than your laptop can handle, so you need to increase the amount of memory.How do you upgrade your computer's memory?
Step 1: To find out how much memory you have in your laptop, right click on "Computer" or "My computer" and select properties.
The control panel will show the same screen if you click the start button.You can see how much installed memory is in your machine under the second section.Make a note of it.
Step 2: If you want to know how much ram your machine can hold, you can use a free utility from a company.
The results show you the kind of memory that is installed by model, style and memory size in each memory bank, and then suggest your options and pricing information.
Step 3: Now that you know what you need, you can purchase memory from your favorite retailer or online.
Step 4: If you open the memory compartment on the bottom of your laptop, you can add or replace your memory modules.
Check your laptop's documentation for the compartment that holds your ram modules, usually a small access panel that is screwed shut with 1 or 2 screws on the bottom of the laptop.
Step 5: Remove the battery from your laptop and turn it off.
Step 6: The memory access panel should be removed.
Step 7: The memory modules are held in place by spring or wedge style clamps.
If any of the modules are to be removed, open these first.
Step 8: Carefully line the new modules up to their slot to make sure the gold fingers on the module match and slide easily into the slot.
Step 9: Attach your modules to the existing ones.
Step 10: The memory access panel needs to be closed and secured.
Step 11: The battery needs to be reinstalled.
Step 12: Plug in and turn on the computer.
Step 13: Your computer will use the new memory.
Step 14: To verify that the new memory is recognized and identified, click on the start button.
