How to install a junction box in a wall

Adding wiring will most likely be required to extend or expand an electrical circuit in your home.Romex is a trade name for non-metallic sheathed cable and consists of two or more insulated conductors within a plastic sheath. The bare ground conductor is usually included in the sheathed cable.Extending Romex past a receptacle or fixture means you'll have to tie into an existing circuit and run the cable to the new fixture, outlet or switch location. The Romex needs to be extended to meet National Electric Code Requirements.

If you want to make sure the Romex circuit is off, turn the power off at the circuit breaker. If the light stays off, the circuit is off and the probe needs to be close to the Romex cable.

Remove the paper wrappings from the plastic wiring box and insert the cable into it.The Romex cable must be stapled to the stud within 8 inches of where it enters the box.

Take a quarter of an inch of insulation from the insulated wires. The wires should be bent 180 degrees with the long nose pliers. The same thing should be done to the bare ground wire.

Remove the green ground terminal with a screwdriver. The ground wire should be placed on the terminal screw. The screw should be tightened firmly.

Put the white wire around the silver terminal screw with the turn going clockwise and loosen the two empty side terminal screws. The brass terminal screw should be tightened the same way as the black wire. The new Romex circuit is ready to be connected at the other end after you replace the receptacle and cover plate.

You can find a junction box with the Romex cable circuit.Bring the probe close to the Romex cable to make sure the power is off at the circuit breaker.

The wires have wire nuts on them.Take 8 inches of the Romex cable and put it in the box.Strip 1 inch of insulation from the ends of the wires.

If you want to replace the wire nut on the connection, you can twist the new bare ground wire around with the lineman's pliers.Do not use pliers to tighten the nut.

The lineman's pliers can be used to twist the white wire end.The wire nut needs to be replaced to make sure there are no bare copper shows.

The lineman's pliers can be used to twist the black wire end.The wire nut needs to be replaced to make sure there are no bare copper shows. The new Romex circuit is ready to be connected at the other end after you replace the junction box cover plate.
