How To Install Tomcat on Windows

Using a Windows PC, you can learn how to install the Apache Tomcat web server environment.Java code can be run in an HTTP web server environment with the help of Tomcat.The first thing you have to do is install the java development kit on your computer.

Step 1: Go to the website.

If you want to return to your keyboard, type or paste into the address bar.In order to install and run Tomcat, you will have to download and install the Java Development Kit.

Step 2: Next to "Top Actions" is a Downloads button.

The blue circle on the quick menu bar looks like a white downward arrow.Below the main showcase box is where you can find it.

Step 3: Go to the Java section and scroll down.

Step 4: The button is labeled "JDK" or "Oracle JDK."

There is a button on the right-hand side.There are available download versions.The "Java SE Downloads" page has the newest release version at the top.

Step 5: You can accept the license agreement at the top of the links.

The download versions are listed at the bottom of the page.The license agreement option is at the top of the list.You have to accept the license agreement in order to download a file.

Step 6: Next to your Windows version, click the blue download link.

You can download the file to your Downloads folder.The latest versions of the java are only compatible with the Windows operating system.If you're using Windows in 32-bit version (x86), you may have to check several JDK/Oracle JDK versions on the Java SE page to find one that's compatible with your system.

Step 7: On your computer, open the JDK installer file.

Double-clicking on the installer file in your Downloads folder will make it run.

Step 8: In the window, click Next.

The installation preferences will be taken on the next step.You should note down the folder directory of the installation location.It is located near the bottom- left corner."C:Program FilesJavajdk1.8" is the installation location.The latest version and release number are included.

Step 9: You can click next.

Java Development Kit (JDK) will be installed on your computer.Click to confirm the installation location if you're prompted.

Step 10: You can click the close button.

Click the button at the end of the installation to close the window.

Step 11: You can open the Java installation location on your computer.

Click on the Start menu to find the folder on your desktop.Make sure to open your install location from the installation wizard if you install JDK to a different location.

Step 12: The jdk folder is in your files.

The jdk and jre are usually located in your Java folder.Click on the folder to open it.

Step 13: The JDK folder has a folder directory.

Go to the address bar at the top of the file explorer window and select the directory you want to open.

Step 14: On your desktop, right-click this PC.

The "This PC" icon looks like a computer.This will open the options on the drop-down menu.

Step 15: On the right-click menu, click Properties.

You can open your system information with this.

Step 16: Advanced system settings can be found on the left-menu.

There is a blue link on the left side of the window.A new dialogue box will be opened.

Step 17: You can click on the Advanced tab.

You can change your settings here.

Step 18: You can click the Environment Variables button.

There is a button near the dialogue box.A new window will open.

Step 19: Under the "System variables" section, click the New button.

There are two boxes at the bottom of the Environment Variables window.There is a way to create a new system variable.

Step 20: Go to the "Variable name" field and type JAVA_HOME.

Your new system variable will be called this.

Step 21: The "Variable value" field is where to paste the copied folder directory.

To paste the copied folder directory, right-click the bottom field and select paste.

Step 22: Click OK if you don't want to.

The new system variable will be added with this.

Step 23: Go to the "System variables" section.

Click on the variable list in the bottom box if you want to select it.

Step 24: Click the button to make a change.

You can change the contents of the Path variable in a new dialogue box.

Step 25: There is a new dialogue box.

The window is in the upper-right corner.There is a new entry at the bottom of the list.

Step 26: Go to the new entry field and type %JAVA_HOME%bin.

You will be able to add this to the Path variable in your system.

Step 27: Click OK.

The new contents of the Path variable will be saved.

Step 28: Click OK to open the Environment Variables window.

Save your environment variables with this.

Step 29: In the system properties window, click OK.

This will apply your new settings.You will be able to download and install the files on your computer.

Step 30: You can open the website in your browser.

If you want to return to your keyboard, type or paste http://tomcat.apache.org into your browser address bar.

Step 31: You can click on the left sidebar.

The option can be found under the "Downloads" heading on the left-hand side of the navigation menu.

Step 32: Under "Core" you can download the 32-bit/64-bit Windows Service Installer.

This option can be found at the bottom of the "Binary Distributions" section.Select a saving location if you're prompted.

Step 33: You can start the file on your computer.

If you want to start the installation wizard, you have to find the installer in your Downloads folder.

Step 34: On the welcome page, click Next.

The License Agreement can be opened on a new page.

Step 35: You can click the I Agree button.

It is on the bottom-right corner of the window.You can choose the components you want to install on the next page.

Step 36: As your install type, select Full.

Click the drop-down next to "select the type of install" and select here to install all the Tomcat components.You can change the components you don't want to install on the list.

Step 37: Click next.

You will be taken to the configuration page after confirmation of your selection.

Step 38: On the next page, click Next.

Click here if you don't want to modify your ports.The admin user name and password can be set at the bottom here.On the next page, you have to specify the Java SE location on your computer.

Step 39: The text field has a three-dot button next to it.

Click this button to select your file location when you're prompted to specify the location of your JRE.

Step 40: The jre folder is in your java folder.

You can usually find your Java folder under it.

Step 41: Click OK.

You can confirm your selection by copying the folder directory to the text field.

Step 42: Click the next step.

You can choose the install location on the final page.

Step 43: You can click the button to install.

This is the start of your installation.There is a green progress bar where you can track the install.You can either click before beginning installation or set a custom location.

Step 44: On the last page, click Finish.

Click this button to close the installation.

Step 45: The Win+R Windows and "R" keys are on your keyboard.

Make sure to press both buttons at the same time.The "Run" window will be opened by this.

Step 46: Go to the Run window and type services.msc.

You can check your running and paused system services here.

Step 47: Click on the list.

You can open your options on a drop-down.

Step 48: Go to the right-click menu.

A new dialogue box will be opened by this.

Step 49: You can start the service by clicking the Start button.

The Tomcat service can be started on your computer.
