At high school dances and wedding reception, grinding is just as common as it is at nightclubs. The movement is simple: find a willing partner, move in close, andgrind your hips together to the music.Whether you do it facing each other or behind your partner, grinding can turn up the heat on the dance floor. It is best to only break it out when you know your partner is into it.
Step 1: Put your hands on your partner.
When your partner turns their back to you, let your hands slide down until they rest on their hip bones. This will allow you to feel their movements more closely, and will also give you a little bit of control if you decide to change up your technique. It is normal for the person in the rear to hold onto their partner. If your partner is not okay with it, be sure to lower your hands slowly so that they can say something.Unless you're told it's okay to do so, don't venture any further.Even while grinding, unwanted touching is still inappropriate.
Step 2: In unison, move your hips.
To sway from side to side, bend your knees slightly. In the heat of the moment, you can begin moving in circles, or experiment with any other movements that suggest themselves to you.Depending on your height, you may have to stand up taller or bend your knees to keep from falling down with your partner.
Step 3: Allow your partner to lead.
It is important to keep your hips against your partner's throughout the dance in order to mirror their movements.Allow your partner to call the shots when it comes to things like what movements to use and how much touching there is.Being a good partner is all about respecting the person you are sharing the floor with and adjusting your style to suit them.If you have chemistry with your partner, they are more likely to get in touch with you.
Step 4: To cut down on unwanted contact, lean to the side.
You can tilt to one side if you are dancing with someone you don't know.Your partner will lean towards you.You will be grinding on your leg more than your lap. There are signs that your partner is hesitant to continue dancing. It is best to create a little distance if their movements slow or stop.
Step 5: Change up your movements frequently.
If you just stood there and did nothing else, it wouldn't be very fun.Take turns leading and following to keep things fresh. You may only have until the end of the song to enjoy your relationship with your partner, so make it count! If you and your partner are on the same page, you could try a variety of tricks. One way to make grinding more interesting is to alternate between dancing from the front and back.
Step 6: Don't think grinding is an invitation for anything else.
Doesn't it make sense that your partner would be willing to do anything for you?People come to a club because they want to dance. If your partner seems interested in you, you can always ask, but be prepared to listen.Don't chase your partner after the song is over. You have a chance to dance together and start looking for a new partner.
Step 7: Look for a willing dance partner.
Search the crowd for someone to dance with while you are on the floor.Strong signs that someone wants to dance are holding eye contact, smiling, and frequent touching.Prepare to get physical once you have selected a partner. If you don't know if the person is picking up on your signals, walk up to them and ask, "Hey, wanna dance?"Don't assume they're playing hard to get if they spend the next few moments ignoring you or moving to another part of the floor.
Step 8: Rub against your partner's hips with the rhythm of the music.
When you get up close and personal with your partner, time your movements to the song.Move your hips against your partner. To increase and decrease the pressure in turns, align your hips to the beat.Try grinding at different speeds. You can move faster during songs that are upbeat and energetic, then slow things down with the music for a more pleasurable experience. The more rhythmic you make it, the more enjoyable it will be for you and your partner.
Step 9: Try touching your partner's hips.
You can ask your partner if it is okay if you put your hands on their hips.Remove your hands if they tell you not to put them on them or move them away. While moving your arms to the music, you can still dance.Unless they move your hands there, don't touch them other than their hips. You don't want to be seen with your partner.
Step 10: Light chest bumps should be added.
Pull your shoulders back when you face your partner.Move your body away from your partner. If your partner catches on, do this a few times. You can do a wave motion with your upper body.Your movements should be synchronized with your partner's.
Step 11: Change things up with some hip rolls.
Put your hips to one side.Your partner will pull theirs back on the same side as you do.If you keep your lower bodies locked together as you roll to the opposite side, they will stick their hips out and you will pull their back. When grinding on your partner from the back, you can use the circular motion of hip rolls.
