Step 7: The feeders should be moved frequently.
There are habitats around food sources.A colony of ants will not settle near the feeders if they are regularly moved.You can change the location of the feeders every couple of weeks.
Step 8: The feeders are in the shade.
A shaded area may be less likely to be invaded by ants.A shaded area will not attract hummingbirds.Hummingbirds can still access the feeders if you look for an area that is partially shaded.
Step 9: The water should be placed over the feeders.
If you have a fountain or other body of water in your yard, hang the feeder over it.As ants stay out of water, this will prevent them from crawling towards the feeders.
