Birds look pretty and sound nice in your yard, but you may want to keep them out of your trees.Birds eat fruit on trees.Birds like sparrows and magpies will build nest on branches to scare away smaller birds. If you want to keep birds out of your trees, you can use deterrents.Birds can perch on trees if barriers and trees are put up.
Step 1: CD-roms can be hung from trees.
Birds don't like reflective surfaces and will be scared away by the CD-roms.Attach one string to each tree branch.Hang them down from the branches. If you want to deter birds from fruit-bearing trees, harvest the fruit and remove the CD-roms.As the trees start to bear fruit, you can put them back up.Pie plates are also reflective and can be used instead of CD-roms.Tie string to the pie plates.Attach one pie plate per branch.
Step 2: There are shiny ribbons on the branches.
Birds won't hang out in your trees if you have shiny ribbons on them. You can get bright ribbons made from shiny material. The shiny ribbons need to be replaced after a storm or bad weather.
Step 3: There are balloons in the trees.
There are balloons with scary faces.A balloon with a menacing bird face is ideal, as it will fool the birds into thinking there is a predator in the trees.Attach them to the tree branches with string. The birds think the balloons are alive when they are moved around the trees.
Step 4: There is a scarecrow at the base of the trees.
The straw and wood is half the size of the trees. The person is wearing a hat or shirt. The birds don't want to see it, so they stay away. The birds think the scarecrow is a real person if you change his position once a week. You can change the appearance of the scarecrow by putting a hat on it.
Step 5: A hawk or owl is a good decoy.
You can buy decoy hawks at your local hardware store.Birds think the decoy is real because of their fear of hawks and owls. The birds will think the hawk is dead if you move it to a different spot in the trees every few days.
Step 6: There is a moving device.
Birds can be scared away by a moving device like a spider or hawk. You can find moving devices at your local hardware store. They can deter the birds by hanging them from the trees. Most moving devices have batteries. You will need to swap out the batteries frequently. The high pitched sounds of moving devices can be annoying to people.
Step 7: Get a bird deterrent.
You can find bird sound deterrents at your local hardware store or online. These devices send distress calls to birds. You can hang them in the trees. You will need to replace the batteries on these deterrents.Birds are the only ones who can detect sound waves that can't be detected by humans. These devices should not bother you.
Step 8: The trees are covered with plastic.
Netting protects fruit bearing trees and deters birds.Use bamboo poles, fence posts, or tall stakes to create a frame around the tree. The net should be draped over the frame to reach the ground. The net should be anchored to the ground so it doesn't move.Netting that is well anchored will usually stay in place.Plastic nets may not be the most attractive on the trees, but they will help keep birds away.
Step 9: Chicken wire should be put over the trees.
Use chicken wire to drape a net over the trees. The bottom of the chicken wire should be secured with bricks or wood.
Step 10: You can use reflective tape.
You can put reflective tape over the tree branches to keep birds out.The sound of flash tape making a crinkling sound will deter the birds.Tie the tape to the wire in the ground.
Step 11: Cut off branches that are too big.
A pair of garden shears can be used to remove branches that are overgrown or damaged. The tree trunk can be harmed if branches cross each other.Just above the tree trunk, cut the branches at a 45 degree angle. The birds will use less of a surface area for perching if the branches are removed. They shouldn't spend too much time in the trees. It will encourage the tree to grow.
Step 12: Take care of the trees.
It has time to recover and grow in if the trees are Prune in late fall or winter. The trees should be trimmed so they don't get overgrown.Only trim 25 percent of the tree at a time. The tree can become out of control if it is not trimmed. If you have fruit bearing trees, make sure you harvest the fruit when it's ready to be picked.
Step 13: An arboriculturalist will cut the trees for you.
If you don't know how to properly fertilize your trees, look for a local arborist. If you're looking for someone who has experience cutting trees, look online. You can ask them how to maintain your trees after they inspect them.
