How To Maintain Box Braids

A beautiful collection of thin braids are created by box braids. The box braids still need some care throughout the week, even though they don't need as much maintenance as regular hair.By taking care of your hair, it will look and feel as good as it did the day you braided it.

Step 1: You can wash your hair with a foam cleanser.

The foam cleanser should be squeezed onto the microfiber cloth.Start from the front of your head and work your way back.Continue rubbing the back of your head until it reaches your neck.If you need to, you can use this more often. The easiest way to apply the cleanser is to travel down the central part of your body.Baby wipes can be used to keep your hair clean.

Step 2: To clean your hair, spray a cleanser along your roots and braids.

You can apply liberal amounts to your natural hair roots and box braids. You can knead the product further into your braids by using your fingertips. After you wash your hair, rinse it in the shower with warm or hot water.Since you will be washing both natural and synthetic hair, it is recommended that you ask a salon professional for recommendations on good shampoos to use with box braids.

Step 3: There are precautions to take when drying your hair.

If you want to air-dry your hair, put it under a hooded dryer for half an hour.If you don't give your hair time to dry, it can develop mold.If you have to braid your hair in the shower, be sure to pat them dry with a towel. When you towel dry your braids, don't put too much pressure on them.

Step 4: You can spray a mist over your hair.

You can apply an even amount of spray to your hair.If you participate in a lot of physical activities, it is important to keep your hair and scalp fresh. You can keep your hair from smelling like sweat with this spray.Immediately after you exercise, apply this to your hair.

Step 5: Use witch hazel to clean your hair.

Put a cotton ball with witch hazel in the middle of your box braids. You can use witch hazel to get rid of dirt and build-up on your head.

Step 6: You need to care for your hair before getting box braids.

The day before your braiding appointment, apply both conditioning and deep conditioning products to your hair to make it as healthy as possible.Since you won't be cleaning your box braids as often, make sure that your hair is strong and hydrated before the braids go in.

Step 7: You should massage the conditioning gel at least twice a week.

Make sure that your thumb and four fingertips are coated with product by rubbing a pea-sized amount of conditioning gel around them. The conditioner should be put into the twists of each braid after halfway down each piece of hair. This helps to keep your hair from becoming unruly. If you have long hair, repeat this on your braids.A leave-in conditioner comes in a bottle that can be pumped or sprayed but conditioning gel is usually sold in jars.

Step 8: Use a spray or leave-in conditioner to keep your hair moist.

Remove dead skin cells by massaging it with a leave-in conditioner. If you want to keep your skin from drying out, you can lightly spray a water and natural oil mixture on your hair.

Step 9: Along sensitive areas, apply a few drops of hair serum.

There is a dropper tool that you can use to squeeze hair serum onto the edges of your braids.Rub the product into the braids. You can put it between your box braids.Relief can be provided to any areas that are tight and uncomfortable.A dropper tool is included in the price of a serum.Silicone can cause excess build-up if you use more natural hair products.

Step 10: To protect your braids, wear a hair sleeve.

Keep your braids protected overnight by Tucking them into a hair sleeve. You could end up putting a lot of pressure on your braids.Place a stretchable hair sleeve around your neck like a necklace.Pull the sleeve over the bulk of your braids. Most hair sleeves only go down to your shoulders, but they do an excellent job of protecting your braids as you sleep. There is a light barrier of protection to your hair. You can cover your braids with a headscarf at night. If you want to provide more protection to your braids, consider sleeping with a pillowcase.

Step 11: You can touch up your edges with a toothbrush.

Use your fingers to massage a grape-sized amount of styling gel along the edge of your box braidsRub it in with a toothbrush and use short, smooth motions to comb down any excess hair.Try to imitate a combing motion when using your toothbrush.

Step 12: Before putting your hair up, loosen your braids with your fingers.

If you tie up your hair, use an elastic hairband.Pull and loosen the box braids that are snug against the top of your head to relieve the pressure on your hair. This makes your braids more comfortable, and puts less strain on them.

Step 13: Take your braids out after 6 weeks.

After around 6 weeks, you should go to a salon to have your braids removed.Keeping your box braids in for too long can place a lot of strain on your hair and scalp.Give your hair time to rest.Put box braids back in your hair after a month.
