One of the most beautiful faces of Ancient Egypt is Queen Nefertiti.Her sculpted bust is instantly recognizable due to her elegant features.Many people dress up as her for costume parties, events, and history projects.Her crown is more complex than her dress is simple to make.The time and effort it takes to make this crown is worth it, and will leave you feeling like a queen.
Step 1: There is a piece of black or blue poster paper to choose from.
Some people think Nefertiti's crown is dark blue, while others think it is black.Look at the photos of her crown.If you can't find black or blue poster paper, use spray paint or acrylic paint to paint it.The poster paper is stronger than regular paper.If you can't find poster paper, use another type of heavy paper with similar dimensions.
Step 2: The poster paper should be 12 inches (30 cm) tall.
The paper landscape style can be placed on a mat.A mark should be made on each side edge from the bottom.Use a long straight edge to connect the lines.Use a craft blade and a metal straight edge to cut the line.Set the rest aside and keep the 12 inches (30 cm) tall piece.You will be cutting the crown to make it shorter.You should give yourself more material to work with.You can cut the paper with a pair of scissors, but a craft blade and metal straight edge will give you a cleaner line.If you need to start over, keep the piece that you set aside on hand.
Step 3: Wrap the poster paper around your head.
Wrap the landscape style around your head like a crown.Use a pencil to make a mark on the bottom edge of the seam.You need to mark the paper right next to the corner.You won't know where to cut if you mark the corner and not the paper.The crown has to be wrapped around your head, above your ears, and at the nape.
Step 4: The line should be drawn from the mark to the top corner.
Spread the paper crown out again.The mark is along the bottom edge.To connect the point to the top corner of the paper, use a ruler and pencil.The corner depends on what side of the paper you drew the mark on.If you drew the mark on the right side, connect it to the left corner.To allow for overlap, you are measuring 2 inch away from the mark.
Step 5: Cut along the line that you drew.
The shape of Nefertiti's crown will be created by this.Again, use a pair of scissors or a metal straight edge and a craft blade.
Step 6: Attach your temples to the crown.
Roll and tape the crown back together.The crown should be put on with the seam in the back.To outline your temples, use a pencil.Follow your hair as closely as possible.You should finish your tracing in front of each ear.For a nicer finish, the top left and right corners may be curved or rounded.
Step 7: You traced the lines.
Remove the crown and flatten it first.Next, use a pair of scissors or a craft blade to cut the lines that you drew.If you want a nicer finish, erase the pencil marks.If you want to measure across your forehead, you can do it from the temple to the crown.The area you are cutting off should not be more than 2 inches tall.
Step 8: The width of your forehead needs to be drawn along the bottom edge.
Wrap the paper around the crown with a strip of tape.The crown should be put on with the seam in the back.A gold marker is used to trace a rectangle onto the crown.The width of your forehead needs to be made about 2 inches tall.It should end at the corners of your eyes.The bottom edge of the paper needs to be touched to make the rectangle as precise as possible.If you want a softer look, you can round the top left and right corners.
Step 9: Paint the crown gold.
Remove the crown and tape.Flatten the crown and fill it with gold paint.Let the paint dry.It should take 15 minutes.You can use a gold marker.Make sure the gold is visible on the paper.
Step 10: The gold strip should be drawn down the length of your crown.
Use a ruler and a gold marker to draw 2 parallel lines after you find the center of your crown.Go from one narrow end of the crown to the other with these lines.When finding the center of your crown, do not include the gold rectangle.Measure just above it.There are gold markers against black or blue paper.If yours does, use a thick gold paint pen.
Step 11: Take the gold strip and divide it into smaller pieces.
Use a ruler and a gold marker to draw horizontal lines.Make sure the vertical lines connect to the top and bottom of the strip.If you want to have a pattern that consists of 2 and 1 2 in, you need to space the lines.If you're having trouble copying the design, look at pictures of Nefertiti's crown.
Step 12: The red, green, and blue colors can be painted.
An alternating red-and-green pattern can be painted on the large, wide rectangles.The skinny rectangles should be painted a deep blue.You can use tempera or poster paint if you want to use a craft paint.To make a fancy crown, cut the red, green, and blue paper in half and glue them into the spaces.It is possible to use shiny, metallic paper.If you want to add more bling, hot glue the red and green rectangles together.Re-trace the gold lines that were covered up by the paint.
Step 13: Thin gold cording is desired.
The gold rope or cord is the same thickness as the gold lines that make up your gold strip.The gold cording should be hot glue to the top and bottom edges of the strip.Don't put the cording between the mini rectangles.You can use gold paint, gold glitter glue, or even a gold colored hot glue stick if you can't find gold cording.
Step 14: Light-weight air dry clay can be purchased.
You can use foam clay instead of paper clay.When you press down on it, foam clay still has some elasticity to it.It feels like a dried up snack.You can find words like feather-light, fluffy, or model magic on the packaging.Do not use any of the clays listed.The clay is too heavy.Paper clay can be found in the clay section of a craft store.The kids section of a craft store has fluffy clay.
Step 15: The clay should be rolled into a rope.
The rope should be the same thickness as your thumb.It should be the thickness of a pencil.The rope should be twice the height of your crown.The proportions of the snake to the rest of Nefertiti's crown can be seen in the pictures of her crown.
Step 16: The rope can be coiled into a figure-8 shape.
The figure-8 should be formed from the center.The rope should stick out of the middle if the loops are small.Something that looks like an 8 will go through the middle of it.
Step 17: The figure-8 needs to be turned on its side.
The thicker end of the rope should be on the figure-8.The figure-8 should be underneath the thinner end of the rope.The shape should be the same height as your crown.
Step 18: To make the head, flatten the sides and bend the thick end upwards.
The middle of the figure-8 is where all lines intersect.To make the hood on the snake's head, flatten the side edges of the rope.
Step 19: The shape of the snake can be changed.
Take a look at the cobra on Nefertiti's crown.The shape of the hood should be adjusted if necessary.The holes for the nostrils and eyes can be made with a toothpick or ball point pen.
Step 20: The snake's height should be adjusted.
The snake should be positioned against the middle of the crown, with the base of its neck touching the gold forehead rectangle.The top of your crown should have the skinny tip of the tail on it.If the cut is not blunt, round the tail back out.
Step 21: The snake should be dry.
Depending on the type of clay you are using as well as how warm, cold, or humid your home is, how long this takes can vary.You will be waiting for an entire day.
Step 22: The snake has gold paint on it.
The gold paint matches the gold on the forehead.You can use spray paint for this.Before moving on, let the paint dry completely.It should take 15 to 20 minutes.If you want your snake to look more metallic, spray it with a clear, glossy lacquer.For extra sparkle, glue tiny red rhinestones into its eyes.You can use tacky glue or white school glue instead of super glue.
Step 23: Attach the ends of the crown to the tube.
Put tacky glue on the crown's narrow ends.The crown should be rolled into a tube with the narrow ends touching.The top and bottom edges of the crown should be secured with paper clips, binder clips or clothespins.It may take a few hours, so be patient.A strip of masking tape or duct tape can be laid down on the inside of the crown to make it stronger.Hot glue will create too much bulk in the seam and is not recommended for this step.The seam needs to be straight.
Step 24: The back should be taller than the front if the top edge is trimmed.
The back of the crown is the seam that you just made.The crown should be taller where the seam is and shorter in the front if you use a pair of scissors.The difference between the front and back does not matter.There should be about 1 to 2 inches.The final crown should be 20 to 30 cm tall.
Step 25: The front of the crown has a snake Glued to it.
The fastest hot glue will work here.tacky glue can be used, but be prepared to hold it for a few minutes until the snake holds it.White school glue is not recommended because it is too thin.You can use super glue.Press the dotted line against the crown of the snake.
Step 26: If you want, glue the top of the crown to the poster paper.
Glue the crown to the top with hot glue.Place the crown on top of another sheet of black or blue poster paper.You will get a more finished piece if you cover the top of the crown.If you want to, you can skip this step.The surface area you're working with is so thin that tacky glue is not recommended.There is a nice seam on the inside of the crown.
Step 27: If you add it, cut the poster paper around the crown.
Cut along the top edge of the crown to separate it from the larger sheet of poster paper.To remove crooked edges from the crown, use a pair of scissors.If you aren't covering the top of the crown, skip this step.Attach the inside seam with more hot glue or tape.
