How to make a furniture leg bed bug trap is in this PDF.

I planted a bunch of tomatoes in the back yard last year.Unlike last year, my tomatoes came under attack this year.by bugs. The first thing it was worms. What about hornworms?I don't know.Icky worms. Then came the stinkbugs.I didn't get a single tomato for me to eat because my tomatoes were rotting and being eaten.

I wanted to evict the bugs, but I didn't want to do it with a bunch of chemicals, which defeats the purpose of growing them in the back yard.

The leaves, the tomatoes, and the ground around them are covered with powdered sugar and cornstarch. The plants look ridiculous. The tomatoes are delicious!

I don't know if it kills off the bugs or just keeps them away, but I'm good with it.The bonus is that it deters the squirrel a bit.I am good to go after a quick wash in the kitchen sink.Everyone can have tomato sandwiches.

It's great to know that this trick keeps squirrels away.I gave up and didn't plant any tomatoes this year because of that problem.I will use this tip next year.

My!Every day I learn something new.Thank you for the tip.I like to grow my own veggies. This will be useful.

This is a great tip.I put my tomato plant and herbs with cornstarch on your suggestion to stop worms from gnawing on my plants. It is great! The deck is covered in powder, but it works.

Cornstarch is your friend in the garden.

Who knew?I had hornworms at the end of the season last year, if they show their ugly heads again I will be dusting them. Thanks for the tip!!

Awesome!I'm going to try this!Squirrels and fire ants are eating my tomatoes. They only eat my tomatoes, not basil, mint or peppers.Corn Starch will be the first stop in the grocery store.

I have tried a lot of different things, but I still have a bad bug.The bugs have showed up.I was happy to let them have one plant and leave the others alone, but now they all have it, even with the cornstarch.I had a good start to the season.I will start with the cornstarch before the bugs hit. Here is hoping! It's definitely important to re-apply.I have to go back out there after the rains to cover them again or the stinkbugs will come back too soon.Next year, we hope for bug-free tomatoes.

Wind is a big problem for our tomatoes, but so far none of the above problems have arisen. If it works, it will be a big deal for us.We need to burn the plants to get the worms.

My garden group has questions about this idea.Does it affect the plants or does it wash off in the rain?

I think people know more about gardening than I do.If your five year old is watering the garden with a hose, it just washes off in the rain, and I haven't noticed any ill effects.

Monsanto has a product in corn that is used to prevent corn borer worm and other insects from eating the corn. It's everywhere and pervasive. The wind has spread the gene.

I am trying this on my toms, which are being ravaged by cabbage moths.I am in Australia and I will see if the hypothesis has merit.

You can make a beer trap by placing a jar of beer on the side of the garden and letting the earwigs crawl in.The can can be buried about half way into the soil. This works on the slugs that attack our tomato plants.

I used plastic cups with low alcohol beer dropped down into the soil to control the slugs, and they went in and drown, much easier than squashing them. One can was used mixed with a little water and it did several bait cups for a week and then I topped up the cups with more, but they were dumb enough not to heed the warning the other dead ones were giving out.

I assumed that the cornstarch would stick better after a watering after I did them dry.

I gave up growing anything because of the squirrels.I will try this year, thanks!

Will let you know how it works, I have problems with all of those bugs, but I really don't want to use any chemicals.!

Thank you for the information.Fire ants have invaded my tomatoes and compost in North Carolina.

I live in Florida where the fire ants stay on vacation all the time.I have 120 billion plants in pots, and the fire ants decided to build colonies in each pot.I didn't intend to repot 120 kazillion. Was that a billion? That's right.I will not use chemicals.I decided to use cinnamon. There is a small tab on top of the soil. The fun began. It was like a thief in the night when they pulled up a chair and watched them grab some.Let's have a moment of silence. You will be missed little.% £.&/$#(!!)Who is saying ParTee?

I have a problem with rabbits eating my bean plants before they flower, but I don't have an issue with bugs eating tomatoes. Is there a way to keep them away?I use soap to keep the deer away, but it doesn't seem to work on rabbits.

The rabbits are so cute.I feel your pain.I would like to build something like this: http://wheredmyjobgo.blogspot.com/2011/09/box-garden-squirrel-proof-cover.html

Squirrels and rabbits can benefit from cayenne pepper.Add some garlic and mix it in an old gallon milk jug.Squirrels and rabbits like plants that are sprayed over.

The hot pepper treatment is terrible for any animal that gets it into their mouths or eyes. They transfer the fiery oils to their babies when they feed or touch them.Animals, children and pets in contact with the treated area will be affected.I hope you find a humane way to deter these pests.

I put a whirly gig in my tomatoes to get rid of rabbits. It worked. It's a metallic one.It is not known if it is the motion or the reflections from the moon.

Did you get such a device?Anything that might be useful is something I am interested in.Did it work for you?The fence we put up to keep out peter rabbit might be useful for other things as well.We have had a lot of rain.I had to deal with early blight and sephoria all morning.

I tried a bar of soap.Put the potatoe peeler around the garden.I did sovaroundpots when I had pots.It kept people out.

I used soap around my small garden. It kept people out.

tin pans were tied onto a string in my grandma's garden. They make noise in the wind and reflect the light. She was free of animals.

Most corn products are genetically modified. They knew not to come near the plants since it was full of genetically modified organisms.Irish Spring or Zest soap is not good for plants, people, soil, ground water, fish, or anyone else.Think about what you are using on your food and how it affects the environment.

I will try the cornstarch next summer, but I also plan to spray the doTERRA essential oil with water. It can be used as a pest control for animals as well.A very strong aroma, but a 100% natural alternative.

Cornstarch is a safe alternative to poisons and helps deter garden pests that feed on tomatoes.

Purchase urine from cats at your local hunting store or Walmart.Any type of wildlife is repelled by it.It's used on my chicken and duck pens.It does not work on birds because they can't smell.

The soap idea is something I will use for my tomatoes, but I have all raised beds, and the rabbits eat all my salad stuff, so I use a cheese grater.I don't have to worry about my food or soil. The first year I put wood on the raised bed it bleaches it a bit.

I would like to know!I haven't tried the bird net things that I've been looking at at the Gardener's Supply site.

Every year our grape vine is loaded with grapes but right before they get ripe enough to pick them, the birds come in and in one day every single grape is gone.We have put up nets for the past 2 years. The first year only one net, birds got the grapes, so last year we put up two nets, one on top of the other. We are cutting them down and digging up the grape root.sigh

I am not sure if this will work on your grape vines, but I know that the orchards around here tie tin strips in their trees to keep the birds out.The light hitting the tin scares the birds away.

I have tried it on spinach and it worked great.I would give it a try because it is cheap and can hurt.

I live in Northern California and all the wineries use shinny long silver and colored strips. They put them on their grape vine wires and stakes. They attach them to the polls. The birds are kept away.

Is cornstarch harmful to bees?We don't use anything that would hurt the bees.

How about squash bugs on pumpkins? In our garden, we have more trouble with those than anything else.

I have not tried it on those, but the good news is that it is cheap and can be tried.Give it a chance?

I will forgive you if I missed the tip. Will this work on flowers and food? Will the dogs be hurt by the cornstarch? They like to suck on the grass where I have my flowers.I have 2 acres of grass and they want to eat it right by my flowers. Daffodils are poison to deer.

Hi!It would work on flowers, but I don't know why.I don't know if the cornstarch hurting dogs is worth a phone call to a vet.I don't have any animals right now, so I'm not sure.

There!I saw this gem in the garden soil.It helps keep the soil moist.I was looking for a reason why it works that way and found your post.I have to post your info in their comments.Have a great night.

I love the tips here.I use crushed egg shells to protect my plants. They won't crawl over the shells because of the rain.Place a ring around the plant. It's good for anything that slugs want to eat.

Four o'clock is when you should plant.Four o'clock are poisonous and Japanese Beatles love to eat them.

Are 4o'clocks poisonous to dogs? What about cats?Birds?Rabbits?I might be with you on the whole yard thing. The beetles destroyed my roses.

Has anyone tried this on plants? Most of our squash plants don't get to produce much after an attack because we get hit hard with them every summer. Thanks a lot.

I was wondering how to get rid of ladybugs in the house.I know I'm off topic, but still...

I live in the city.I put up bird nets around the garden. That didn't work for the chipmunks, who are now taking the tomatoes. There is a wire fence around the outside of the bird net.I am trying a mixture of detergent and oil for animals.I was happy to find the solution.Next will be that.

We have moles eating our tomato plant roots and I shot some powder down several holes.Don't know it will help.Is there anything I can do to get the moles to leave?

I wonder if the cornstarch will keep the worms out of my cabbages.I am going to give it a try.

My vegetables were destroyed last year by cabbage worms and bugs. Thanks for the tip. Will try it this year and give updates later.
