There are two ways to apply a gradient to text in Illustrator.Go to the Appearance panel if you want to use the first method.Make sure the newly added fill stays selected by clicking the Add New fill button.
If you want to apply a gradient across all text in Illustrator, you have to move to the Gradient panel. You can change the text or the gradient once you've applied it.
Take a closer look at the text and you will see a small outline. The original text color still lies underneath the gradient.
Remove that color to fix this issue. To access the text settings, go to the Appearance panel and double-click the Character button.Use the None swatch to remove the color from the fill color wheel.Click the button if you want to return to the Appearance settings.
If you want to use the second method, you need to select your text and then type "create outline" to turn it into shapes. You can apply a gradient to the shapes, but it will be applied separately on each letter shape.
To apply a uniform gradient on the entire text, you need to turn your group into one shape.Click the Unite button and the resulting shapes will be turned into a compound path.
To apply a gradient across all the text in Illustrator, move to the Gradient panel and select your compound path. You can change the gradient as you please, but not the text.
If you used the first technique, you can switch the Fill and Stroke attributes in the Appearance panel by hitting the Shift-X keyboard shortcut.Make the outline thicker by increasing the stroke weight.
You might have noticed that the outline is not straight. The Illustrator applies a stroke to each character. To apply the outline to the entire text, you need to select the Stroke from the Appearance panel.
