How To Make a Paper Dress

A paper dress can be fun to make.A paper dress can be worn to a costume party. The process of making a paper dress can take a long time. You'll make the bottom first, and then make a top piece with it.You'll have a fun paper dress once you're done.

Step 1: There are old newspapers to be collected.

You will need to collect newspapers. This can get difficult if you don't subscribe to a newspaper. There are ways to find newspapers. The old newspaper can be recycled. If you know a neighbor who recycles, ask if they have any old newspapers to spare. You might be able to find old newspaper at the recycle bin, but you should ask the worker if it's okay to take the paper.Go to your local grocery store to check it out. They may be willing to give you old newspapers if they have them.

Step 2: You need to gather your supplies.

It can be fun to make a dress out of newspaper. It's great for a costume party. You will need a pen or pencil to make a newspaper dress. It's important to get a non-toxic brand of tape.If you don't have a tape measure, you can buy one at the drugstore. You will need some string.A thick bundle of string can be bought at a local craft store.

Step 3: Attach two pieces of newspaper together.

Take two pieces of newspaper. If necessary, open them up so they can spread out more.Place the pieces side by side and tape them together. The skirt portion of your dress will comprise this.Make sure the pieces are securely together by taping them down with a lot of tape.

Step 4: Measure your waist and mark it with a newspaper.

Measure your waist with a tape measure.Measure below your rib cage.Take the tape measure around your waist and see how big it is.Write down the number.Measure your waist with a tape measure.Put the end of the tape measure on your skin, halfway between your lowest rib and the top of your hip bone. This should be in line with your belly button.Make sure the tape measure is smooth by wrapping it around your waist. Before you remove the tape measure, write down the size of your waist.Put your waist size on top of the newspaper.Your waist is 22 inches.Start by stretching the tape measure out from the end of a piece of paper. To mark the 22 inch mark, use your pen to make a small vertical line on top of the newspaper.

Step 5: Wrap the two pieces around your waist to allow them to cross.

You should wrap the newspaper around your waist. At the line you marked, you want to allow the two ends of the newspapers to overlap. As you want a long, flowing, triangular shape, allow them to point downward slightly. The newspaper needs to look like a piece of furniture. The newspapers should be in place like this.Ask a friend to help you hold the newspapers in place.

Step 6: There is a line marking where the pieces meet.

Take a pen or pencil. The two ends of the newspapers should be marked with a line. The beginning of the bottom of your dress will be created by taping the newspapers along this line.

Step 7: Use several pieces of tape to tape down the line.

The newspaper needs to be removed from your waist. When folding the two pieces of newspaper, make sure they overlap at the line you drew. They should be the same shape as when they were wrapped around your waist. It should look like a piece of furniture. To tape the newspapers together, use a number of pieces of tape. You should be able to stand up now that you have a cone-like shape.

Step 8: The skirt portion should include several layers of newspaper.

It is possible to set your existing skirt on a chair or stool. You can put more newspaper on the skirt.Put a piece of newspaper in the middle of your skirt.Several pieces of tape were used to secure the newspaper to the skirt.Adding more newspaper to the middle of the skirt will allow some overlap between pieces, until the original skirt is covered with extra newspaper. The new newspapers will stretch below the two original newspapers. The size of your skirt will affect how many newspapers you need.If you have a bigger waist, you need more newspapers. It is possible for length to be optional. You can stop by covering the skirt with newspapers.Add another layer if you want a longer skirt. You can tape new newspapers over the old ones. The first layer of newspaper should be taped between the ends of the new newspapers.

Step 9: Cut a slit in your skirt.

You need to take your scissors. The back of your skirt is where you should make a cut.The first two newspapers were taped together. This will create a slit in the back of your skirt that will allow you to take the skirt off.

Step 10: There are two strips of newspaper.

You can make two strips of newspaper from here.Take a single piece of newspaper.Cut the line in the middle of the newspaper by folding it in half.Roll the newspaper into a cylinder shape by taking one side. The cylinder must be pressed down until it folds into a strip.Place the tape along the edge of the strip.Pick up the other piece of the newspaper.

Step 11: The back of your skirt can be made more attractive with the use of these two small strips.

The back of your skirt will now be covered by these two strips.Slow down and make sure you do this correctly. There is a slit at the back of your skirt.Attach the tip of the strip to the slit.Put another piece of tape across the strip when you move down about an inch.In order to secure the dress in place, you'll have to create a series of slots along the seam. When you reach the end of the slit, keep taping down the newspaper, leaving about one inch of space between the pieces of tape.On the other side, repeat the same process.Make sure the slots you created on the other side line up with the ones you originally created.Take several pieces of string.Feed a piece of string between the slots. This piece of string should be passed through the slot on the other side. When you're ready to wear your skirt, you will tie the strings together. You can untie the strings when you want to take your skirt off.

Step 12: There are two pieces of newspaper.

The top of your dress can be created from here.Once again, you'll start by taping two pieces of newspaper together, like you did when you began your skirt.

Step 13: The curved shape of the newspaper's tops resembles a low-cut dress.

The top of your newspapers should look like a low-cut dress. The newspaper's top should be cut into an upward bending curve. The top of bra cups or a bikini top is what this should look like.

Step 14: The dress's top should be folded slightly.

You don't want the top of the dress to look awkward when you pair it with the skirt. It's a good idea to make sure the top bends slightly, following the curve of your waist. The top of your dress is formed by the two pieces of newspaper taped together. The non-curved end of the piece has a small slit through it.The slit shouldn't go all the way to the top of the paper.Cut the paper in half.Pull one end of the slit over the other, bending your top at a slight angle. These pieces should be taped together. On the other side, repeat this process.

Step 15: Attach the top part of the dress to your body.

Wrap the top part of your dress around your body. The portions that look like a bikini top should fall on your chest.Take a look at the newspaper you need for the top.The newspaper intersects where you should mark. The top should be removed and the newspaper cut off.

Step 16: Take the top off and put it on the bottom.

You are wearing a full newspaper dress.Attach the skirt to the bottom with strings in the back.Wrap the top portion around your waist and tape it in place. You can wear a full paper dress to a Halloween party or just wear it for fun.Someone will probably be able to help you secure the dress.
